2012 t20 Cricket Season
« on: May 03, 2012, 09:37:15 PM »

Thought I'd kickoff a thread for t20 matches this season, as we play quite a few. Won a friendly tonight with a mixed team, Simdog slogged 50, we got 128-9 and the oppo fell short by a few runs. Apart from one short boundary, the long outfield made runs difficult to come by.

In the only Tournament we are entered into, we were fixtured to play the Champions in the first round however due to it being a wash out and even a bowl off not being possible, Surrey Championship rules stated that the winner of our game should be decided on the toss of a coin :L however we were misfortunate, once again for us tails, fails...

we have a cup game next week, then roughly 10 weeks of Headingley T20 League games with the odd cup game inbetween. After that we have friendlies until mid August. Approx 20 games in total.

I made a polite enquiry as to whether you could come back in and got a mouthful from the oppo skipper. According to him you were out hit ball twice! For those who weren't there Simmy played reverse sweep/switch-hit and the ball glanced the face and made a double contact in going for runs. Our umpire (I think?) drew attention to it and politely asked if the oppo wished to appeal. The norm is to disregard such things as hit ball twice is designed for batsman using the bat to protect their stumps after a shot is complete. The nobby keeper appealled and Simmy, according to them was out.

Their skipper wasn't right in the head all the way through the game. A ball deflected off the stumps and our bowling shouted "get it, get it" to our fielders and received a warning from their skipper umpiring, the guys 65 for god sake. Later their skipper turned down an LBW, Simmy said "it was missing another set" ie. agreeing with the umpire. The skipper threatened to walk off the pitch unless we stopped abusing him! This was in the first 6 overs of our bowling, I left shortly after. God knows how it went from there! The rest of the oppo were fine though, I think the skipper is always like that.

We are putting retired in the book Simdog, at least we know how to play cricket!

Simmy - good to hear you are off the Audi ;)

I am pretty sure that would be not out "hit the ball twice".
Law 34 (Hit the ball twice)
1. Out Hit the ball twice
(a) The striker is out Hit the ball twice if, while the ball is in play, it strikes any part of his person or is struck by his bat and, before the ball has been touched by a fielder, he wilfully strikes it again with his bat or person, other than a hand not holding the bat, except for the sole purpose of guarding his wicket.

the requirements here is "wilfully" which is patently not the case here.

yeah it was complete rubbish and I wouldn't of even drawn attention to it, let alone grant an appeal. Talking to a couple of their guys it seems, despite a couple of reasonable even contests in the last 2 years there is some resentment towards us beating them on a regular basis. The skipper in particular was almost determined to win at all costs, he recruited the aussie at number 3 who I suspect might be Adels overseas this season , specifically for this game. I mentioned to them we were told to produce a mixed ability side and we did, so St Georges strengthening to that extent wasn't what we expected. Lucky for us the rest of their team was as poor as some of ours!

who got him out in the end? Must of been dark towards the end.

More importantly how did the bar manager do bowling. Worth the 2 league 9-fers?

Would be having our little tournament in a day that we hold at Thornford. A small village tournament, with 3 teams, and do like a round robin (3 points for win, etc), includes coloured kits, music, teas. However due to other teams pulling out we are trying to rebuild. However this year we've got a lot of t20 fixtures scheduled.

Also looking forward to the Under 18 Cup, with Dorchester that we won that last year.

We played our first Headingley and District T20 today and by all accounts it was a thriller. They scored 102-9 in 20 overs, though we didn't catch or field that well. I then left but we were 0-2 off 3 balls, hat-trick ball went to the square leg fence for 4, then the guy was bowled to leave us 3-4 off 4 balls. Got a text a bit later to say we won by 1 wicket with 1 ball to spare! Don't know what happened inbetween apart from 40 were scored off the last 4 overs to win it.

Simdog will fill us in eventually.
