James Taylor
« on: July 30, 2012, 09:02:40 AM »

James Taylor has been called into englands test squad for the second test vs south africa, this is a positive move and shows englands depth but surely jonny bairstow should have been given another chance...

After his inability to play the short ball against windies not surprised he was bypassed. Thought Morgan might get another go after batting well in odis but he failed in last 4 day game whereas Taylor scored runs. Hope that is not the only reason! Wonder what the personal reasons are for bopara it tends to cover a wide range of things.

I'm sure Bairstow's time will come. Personally I feel they should go with a 5 man attack anyway, so JT might not even get a game

I think (see hope) that they will pick 5 bowlers, Finn deserves another go on his ODI form alone, but none of the bowlers really deserve to be dropped, and besides Finn will probably contribute as much with the bat as number 6 has done since PC stepped down.

At first glance i thought you meant Jonathan Trott wouldn't get a game!

Will he be allowed to wear his Ayrtek? Or will Masuri and Albion come wading in with their cheque book like usual?

Paul Collingwood - never fully appreciated in the test line-up until he has gone, the void still hasn't been filled. Good luck to Taylor, I'd be surprised if Flower changed the system now and played 5 bowlers despite us looking toothless in the last test. Come on the English! Level it up and make for a cracking final Test

Part of me thinks that too, but in selecting Taylor rather than Morgan get the feeling they might just chance it with 5 bowlers, especially as they have to play aggressive cricket now with this being a 3 test series.

Being South African Morgan would of been the guy out of bairstow and Taylor i would of feared most for scoring big runs and doing some damage in the middle order instead I can see this selection not doing Taylor any favours especially with zero test match exposure facing the best bowling attack in world cricket is a very tough ask even with all the talent he has!

I tend to agree there slogsweep! Talking about Baptism of Fire!!!
Here's your first test so please do well against one of the quickest and most feared bowling attack in the last 10 or 15 years! Hmmmm!
As much as I admire JT and see that he's in superb form, this will be a serious test!  :o

Jonathan Trott had a handy debut in a deciding Ashes Test...
Put Taylor in - if he's ready then it's down to him to make it count.

Trott was older, more experienced and in better form though.

Had been through the same Lions process as Trott - coming off 163* can't be a bad thing.
