How shall I fix this...
« on: May 16, 2009, 09:08:29 PM »

Found a big kahuna in the bin at my club today!
It isnt even badly broken just a large chunk missing on the inside edge, it is not even the whole edge and its not even cracked its just as if the top bit of willow has fallen off...  so now this bit is a lot lower than the rest of an otherwise lovely bat.

A pic would be helpful!
If there's not too much wood missing, my personal suggestion is woodglue then a few layers of fibretape over the top and that might well sort it.

Depends on the size of the chunk, if it's large you'd have to saw out the inside edge to get a clean line then do the same on an old piece of willow. Then glue and peg this to the broken bat, sand down and then it's repaired.

Better to just replace the missing part and glue the rest, straight lines are not as strong for bonding as variable ones. Obviously, only if possible, you can create a new chunk if needed.

Hammer a few nails into it from the edge then cover in fibreglass tape and scuff sheet.

yh I did but it wasn't there. I will probably cut another piece of willow off another bat and stick it in as its a nice bat.
12 grains
1/4 heartwood
2lb 10 or so

Bounced a ball on it and it has a great middle.
