Every time my boys come to town England loose there skipper.. He has been fantastic for England and I'm sure he will be missed.

As for KP I think he should do the same and hang his international boots up to..

34 years old, diminishing force as a batsman, fallout from the KP incident - sort of seemed inevitable. Have a lot of respect for him as a cricketer and a captain.

Cook is the obvious choice to take over as skipper, but who is next in line to take the opening position?

Is he going to resign? Perhaps he will be passing comment on the KP issue?

Trott will open in India, Bell at 3. Which leaves either KP or Morgan coming back into the team in my opinion, they may even play 2 spinners. I very much doubt they would put fresh blood in on the tour of India

Opens the door for a Patel/Tredwell I guess, if they go with 5 bowlers, if not then there's no way Kp will get the nod.

Don't agree with that at all, under Strauss' captaincy Broad has taken 140 wickets in 38 games at 27.74, I'd say that's a little better than "over-rated". And in his last 16 tests he's taken 73 @ 25.3. As well as averaging 25.3 with the bat. Was our best bowler in the UAE, give him a break.

Also, on the Strauss thing, are we sure its a retirement/resigning from captaincy, and not just talking about the KP issue?

I hope it's a case of Strauss retiring than resigning, if you get my drift. It seems 34/35 is the point many good players start to struggle (Gooch, Tendulkar and Kallis being exceptions). I'd hate to see him resign and then get dropped! In my honest opinion he has done nothing to warrant resigning. As a few have said it might be something else, could even be KP quitting international cricket.

strauss is going to step down that's why the top brass (hugh morris) are out and giles clarke at derbys today
it's a damn shame and too soon. yes,he has had a lean year but he can get his form back and he is the man to lead England in India in my opinion
all those taking pleasure from today(not neccessarily on this forum) remember back to what he took over and the 1980's and 90's when we were a laughing stock.
I hope KP goes and plays for south africa or retires himself and takes the money in 300 2020 tournaments which is all he is interested in.
just my opinion :)

Doesn't it however look bad on Struass that really the first time its ever got tough for him as a captain he's stepped down (if that is what happens)

All captains that are in for a long period of time have to deal with the bad along with the good but just seems that as soon as Struass as hit the bad time that he's now quit.

Doesn't look good on him IMO

Strauss has been a great captain and has been a great leader. His leadership has been followed up with early results and the full backing of a management team behind him. The players that have been in the squad have performed some of there best cricket under him.

But the year at the top has been a difficult ride of which SA should have had the no1 spot before they arrived in England if it wasn't for a washout test with NZ.
Strauss is aging, the form that got him to the top is in bits, with flashes of the old Strauss. But unfortunately he has to go as the India tour maybe the true unveiling of him.
