Anti-Scuff, love it or hate it?
« on: October 07, 2012, 10:07:46 AM »

I took the scuff sheet off my icon last week and after netting with it on Wednesday thought the ball felt decidedly better off the face of the bat. Not sure if this is just purely psychological (perhaps i'm going crazy) or if anybody else has similar experiences, Thanks in advance.

Love it :D

I don't like playing without an scuff sheet, haven't really seen better performance on my end but thats what I prefer :(

I remember the guy who bought my Luna took off the scuff sheet, later when I saw the bat I saw that he used a blade to cut around the stickers LOL

I agree 100% with the original post, bats feel dull with an anti scuff I'm sure it absorbs some of the energy so reduces the ping. I have found that every bat I have taken off the anti scuff to be much better.

You must lightly sand your bat and re oil quite often to keep it in good shape though

Depends on the type of scuff sheet as to how it affects performance... Just ask Bulldog.

I use to be an anti-scuff fan but now I've seen the damage from rock hard balls I always stick one on. The last few bats I have used all have scuff-on and go very nicely. When you think about it,  I doubt that a little bit of plastic can deaden the impact of a ball hitting a bat at 60mph, but it can protect the face.

Anyone have any thoughts on anti-scuffs and moisture levels? I would have though that it would help to keep the moisture in the bat and extend the life over the season(s). I've not put a sheet on my bats this summer and only thought abput this as i was "putting them to bed" for the winter (in a cool dark place I might add).

you are not supposed to add oil to faces if you are adding a scuff sheet. However, I tend to put a fine coating of salix bat wax on my bats then knock them in before eventually adding a scuff sheet. The oil is supposed to help the fibres soften and protect against damage I believe. You still need to do the sides/backs of bats even if a scuff is added.

Well I didn't say it necessarily performs better, just think it "feels" better. And I quite like oiling bats anyway.

an antiscuff will make the bat last longer and protect it.
It will usually marginally reduce the performance of the bat, but not always - that is the trade-off - in a way similar to the pressing debate - a one night stand or a bat for life... I have found the helecopter scuff sheets to be great for pretecting the bat, but the kook scuff sheets have a significantly better "performance" and "feel" retention...

the Antiscuff will hold the moisture in the bat, in the same way oiling will.

personally I whack a scuff sheet on out of habit now - I would rather the bats lasted that bit longer - if you get a beauty, you want to keep it for as long as possible, in my world...

ive not done any tests on if the antiscuff hampers performance but i really cant see it being noticeable if it does. its not as if we are putting a thick pad in the way. they tend to be pretty thin. if performance is reduced that much then why hasnt one of the big guns come up with a new product which helps reduce or eliminate it completely? they have the resources to do that kind of thing and something which could be another marketing tool to get people to buy the bats.

for me its pretty standard. new bat -antiscuff it. not only does it keep moisture in it also protects the blade from extra damage and any moisture from the ball. especially after the year we have had we didnt play on many dry tracks.

lol

When I saw his bat after he took his scuff sheet off, I said what did you do? He was like "I thought you take this sticker off, just like when you buy new phone etc it has stickers which you take off so I thought same for this too" I still remember his exact words lol
