Ie if the projections is to raise £5000 and a further £8000 goes to one person to keep them in that position is that better than not raising £5k? The venture will always be under scrutiny when its not a registered charity... But don't be surprised that charity also pays well. Having known the ex head of Oxfam and he retired of his work there... not to justify GetaGrip but does it raise more than it would with them being around?

This is what I think is wrong with so much of the charitable sector today - its not a millon miles fromthere to the curse of chugging.  Now I reckon I do my bit for charity - both in terms of paying a portion of my income, doing a lot of voluntary work and in encouraging proper, genuine charity fundraising, so please don't cast me as the naysayer on this, but I find things like this tobe pretty insulting!

What I really want to see is someone starting a great little company that makes/sells great grips and benefits a charity. What I feel uncomfortable about is a company that uses charity to benefit 'the business'

Nothing illegal in this (as far as I know) but not the sort of charity I feel comfortable 'donating' too!

Do it the other way and I'd be interested though!

maybe CBF with it's contacts should be doing this kind of work and donating the proceeds to any number of very good cricket specific charities. Can't think of anything better I'd like to give my time and effort towards.

Look good on my cv as well  ;)

Don't start me on the Catholic Church. I am very far from religious and believe the Catholic Church to be extremely rotten...

Get A Grip is here to raise the awareness of Racism through Sport across the UK and beyond. Many people are subject to Racial Abuse and our belief is they shouldnt be. We are joining forces with the Race Equality First Charity and donating £1 from all sales to them so they can continue doing the great job of supporting those who are subject to the abuse.   What we ask is you buy our stickers and cricket bat grips and start to spread the word... GET A GRIP on Racism! Its not big and it isnt clever to Racially abuse anyone. Stand up and make a difference!

Good to see you on here!

Taking this back to the original topic, unless Getagrip becomes a sponsor of Custom Bats, as it is not a charity, in order to sell anything through CBF, we will need to see you provide 50 posts, as per the usual selling rules.

though if we're going to start on that particular debate, we'd have to cover pretty much every organised religion, wouldn't we...

I know what you mean Buzz and I do agree. But having helped out last year with Great Ormond St., Cancer Research, the Canadian Cancer society it just doesn't work like that for the day to day. It cost me a lot more than i had first anticipated... I do not for a second regret it but I did learn some valuable lessons from some people far more intelligent than me.

But i still believe more is done through the people that are entirely selfish and people like your Dad Buzz... Its that drive that really makes all the difference as apposed to those essentially in paid work and who like everyone else can fall in and out of love with it. people with that natural desire to see good come of something or passionately strive for change will always be the front runners in achieving change. But it needs the cogs and wheels too.

There has been talk of Custom bat stuff, why not use that to dedicate to charities annually that can be voted on by the formites.

I agree with M77, there are very few people that can afford to work entirely for charity! The grip, logo and company name look very stylish to me and with the incidents that are still being seen around the world today, promoting anti-racism is still a very key issue IMO

Out of interested - why the choice of a charity which only works in Cardiff?

Are you from there?
