Building Racial Awareness...
« on: October 18, 2012, 08:22:32 AM »

Get A Grip is here to raise the awareness of Racism through Sport across the UK and beyond. Many people are subject to Racial Abuse and our belief is they shouldnt be. We are joining forces with the Race Equality First Charity and donating £1 from all sales to them so they can continue doing the great job of supporting those who are subject to the abuse.   What we ask is you buy our stickers and cricket bat grips and start to spread the word... GET A GRIP on Racism! Its not big and it isnt clever to Racially abuse anyone. Stand up and make a difference!

£6 for a grip and a £1 goes to charity?...............hmmmmm

It's not all about raising awareness is it? There is a large amount of self interest too!

A laudable cause but this looks to me a lot like someone using this cause to make themselves some money....I need a lot more convincing... ;)

AF foundation did pretty much the same a couple of years ago and probably still running. i think it was more than £1 went to the foundation thought. A grip can be made for about £1.

I've just raised this to admin. Also noted:-

website a bit sparse on press articles / corporate sponsors
don't charities required some form of registration number?
First entry in google was 8th October 2012 and getagrip charity doesn't bring a hit up, indicates little or no history to me
Twitter following can be easily done by following and asking for re-tweets

Hi Get A Grip. I notice on your website that you aren't a registered charity, rather that you have a company number and are registered as a Private Limited Company at Companies House. Due to this, even if it is for a good cause, you are required to meet the same set of requirements as any other poster on the forum. That is that you must fulfill 50 posts before you are able to sell on the Forum.

It also brings in to question where £5 of the £6 that your grips cost is actually going.

I would suggest that unless the likes of Arytek or Aedos (who happen to be featured on the getagripuk.org.uk site) are able to coroborate your background, I would suggest that forum members are wary of parting with their cash.

I'd also note that while using a .org.uk extension on a website is not a crime, these domains are supposed to be used by charities and it does suggest a level of insouciance.

This has to be the single most preposterous statement I have ever seen in marketing bumf -

"What better way to encourage the youth of today to respect others than give them a bat grip as part of their annual membership"

I would comment but I do have to do some work today!

In response to your comments we are not a charity, we are donating £1 from all sales to a charity so they are able to continue supporting the victims of racial abuse.

Like the concept, but £6 for a grip is pricey when grips cost as little as 40p to be made.

Thanks for the clarification. Just a couple more things - has the charity you are donating to had input into the design and approved it. The present design similar but why isn't their logo on the grip at all. Have you a written agreement with Race Equality First for the proceeds from the sale of this specific grip to go to them?
