Apologies for digging up an old thread but did anyone take the plunge with the Paceman unit in the end? Or has anyone used/seen one in action?

One of the junior coaches at our club has asked about the prospect of getting one and I was hoping someone might be able to give some first hand feedback?

Thanks in advance
we have one set up in our shop

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Asad, might be able to pop in tomorrow afternoon on my way back from Chipping Norton dependent on time. Fingers crossed.

Would still be interested to hear if anyone has any actual experience of using one.

Surely the Stinger is a better machine?
A new model has just come out, the 5000 I believe, and it is well worth a look.  I think KBS cricket or similar sell it.

not sure if its already been suggested or done but would be great if people could do some video reviews of their various bowling machines.

think there would be a few out there interested in cheaper alternatives to bola...

I thought the stinger only used tennis type balls unless the newer model is different where as the paceman uses bola type balls so I guess the stinger would be a better bet for juniors.

Stinger looks like soft balls and harder ones for the paceman. Not sure if you can actually see a stinger in the flesh before ordering though

fair one. I still reckon it's worth it though, I've used mine for 1000's of balls since I got it so I'd say over the course of a few years it'll be well worth the investment. They are not that expensive if you go for the basic model (which to be fair is all you need) and don't bother with the feeder etc.. TBH, the bit I'd say I slightly find over the top in price is the balls!

Anyone around Chelt is welcome to give me a buzz if they want to use it. I got it for myself to learn and improve but happy to  share.

If you mean the Bola then it goes as fast or as slow as you want. Not sure I get what you mean by 'How does it go' ?

If people are really interested in improving (and speeding up that process) I personally think it's one of the most important bits of training kit. I know some may disagree etc but just from my limited experience in 2 winters it's took me from someone that just saw the ball and hit it (heaven know's what my feet etc were doing) to someone that actually starts to play 'properly' and can occupy the crease and play all around the ground as I've been able to work on the 'weak' shots and so turn them into decent shots.

I genuinely believe although it's not the be all and end all if a club really puts the time and effort into working with their players individually on something like this there would be a hell of a lot better batsmen around.

To prove my theory i've taken a guy that's 21 and been written off by the club as 'nothing more than a hitter who can play the odd good innings' and over this winter working with him he's turned himself in a good batsmen. Playing the percentages, picking the balls to play the right shots too whilst still maintaining that timing and power he had to hit big. Hopefully if he chooses to stay with the club he can go in and basically show up some of the 'reputation' players (which tbh he'll easily do). It'll be itneresting for me to see what runs he gets over the season but more importantly does the club see it or are they too stuck with the reputational players (I suspect they are, clubs don't seem to like trying new players and moving out the dead wood)

I wanted to put a  ;) on that but couldn't manage it from the mobile site so hope my comment was taken in jest.
I'm sold on the Bola to be honest mate, it's just a case of getting it through a committee. Considering how difficult a request for even £50 worth of equipment is the £2k for a Bola is going to be a herculean effort! Fingers crossed though, using one on hire at our winter nets is beginning to win people over.

Yeah I took it as banter buddy. I think it sounds like you've done it the right way, hire/borrow one to show how much difference it makes and then people will defo want it. Even without specific training you face so many more quality balls it helps :)
