Frankly find it disappointing coming this from a respected bat maker.

Always open to positive criticism but find it unfair when such statements are aired undermining one's effort.

Sudeep dont worry abt what others say mate. Your bats are lovely, although i can understand you feel bad when some questions your integrity but you are skilled so just ignore it...

This is exactly my point.. I would prefer to take it directly at my chin rather than such generic statements:

"Good honest [unlike some I've seen] effort well done"

which results in  such questions:

"Norbs, are you implying some people have been buying bats and passing them off as their own? "

and these questions are deliberately  left unanswered to create an atmosphere of doubt and leave everyone to make his own conclusion..

Personally, I'd just ignore mate.  I have no doubt that the bats you put up are made by yourself.  They all look absolutely stunning too!  If I can get them looking half that good when they're done I'd be happy

I have to be honest I am 100% certain this isn't directed at you. My assumption was that this was directed at people who claim to make bats for their brands but who actually buy them premade and use their extreme stickering skills to finish the bat.

Everyone on here thinks the work you do (and the photography that accompanies it) is brilliant

That was always my understanding too (certainly the drum norbs usually bangs - rightly so)....Though he did once question someone on here for 'pretending' to have a hand crafted/finished bat that was finished too well?

Or maybe this whole thread is reverse psychology marketing/PR

I have previously said directly to you that the finish on your is very good for the tools you used and how you use them and was confused at the time still am to be honest but there you go that is just me ...

Your plane needs a bloody good sharpen and you use the draw knife upside down... 

As you mentioned you have problems with the shoulder shaping that method, upside down draw knife, can be used on there but for someone starting, even though you finished product confusingly very good:o, it isnt recommended.  It is easier to use a spokeshave on the shoulder mount the bat on the vice so the edge is facing the ceiling...

I've yet to see the travisher you use?

But this is really important everything needs to be sharp

This is were it gets confusing with you as your end product doesn't really justify giving out advice like this but here goes

To maintain an edge I use these

buy the pack and stick them down yourself on something flat....

If you are really stuck pop to a Carpenter a few quid to sharped them for you... and you just maintain the edge after that....

For the drawknife I hold it between my shoulder and hand and run files up and down.... and like jonners says flatten the back but you flatten the back on all tools...

As you can see I haven't said anything other then say I was confused by your end product. I have been making bats for the best part of 7 years and still remember what it was like starting out and how hard it was to get things right.....  If you ask anyone I help out as much as time allows, which is very few and far between nowadays for a whole raft of reasons.....  By the looks of it though [by your bats] you dont need any help

Andy you have the right to question but why not just a direct post or PM stating "ST i dont think or agree that you are making your own bats, if you can convince me otherwise I will change my opinion"

You do share the knowledge and we appreciate that (especially people like me who have no clue)

Edit: I guess you have stated it somewhat in your posts...but a direct route is always better...
