Why didnt you tell me that you go to uni with yuvraj?

I would refuse to bowl at him! You know, he had the whole Indian team over at his for dinner once. Claims that there were a few nice folk, but there were players who were complete 'donkey orifices' who wouldn't give you the time of their day. I'm not sure who he mentioned, but I think it might have been Kumar and Gambhir.

I love hearing stuff like this.

Haha he didn't compare it to other bats or say it was better than mine. He just stated that his bat was in the spectrum of bats which were the best. It certainly looked it from performance, and wasn't a bad looking bat from what I remember. Besides, he's actually a prince, so I have no doubt that he would have spent as much as he could to get the best, as well as SG making sure he got one of professional quality. He also claimed to be a bowler back in India, who could hit a long ball.

He's a funny guy, I was once backing up just before the bowler bowled, and he took off the bails and appealed. Of course, our umpire was like, if you appeal for that, it's out, but their captain said no, just a warning. The bowler was an Indian as well, and when 'Prince' came in to bat, he said that the bowler made him feel angry and called him a 'freshie', then boldly stated he was going to smash him all over the park. Ended up hitting him for 23 off an over hahaha! Probably one of the few players I know of who could back his crazy claims with performance!

Chad, Just to clarify didn't mean you or your friend mate. I meant I love to hear these "facts" when they are thrown around between cricketers (especially club games )- in general talking terms.

Stuff like

Gray Nicolls/Kooka/ABC make the best bats.

This is the best performing bat money can buy (Hear this a lot from sellers lol)

Bat A is gonna be better than Bat B- based on looks  (citing grains/blemish/heartwood in either bat as evidence!) lol

This was ruthlessly used by half a team for one season (practice as well as matches against stone hard balls) - still going strong off the middle with a completely thrashed "falling to bits soon" toe. Will take a Now picture next weekend.

i had a SG a couple of years back, had a low middle typical indian style but went like a train, used it for half a season then sold it to a very impressed team mate and got a GM Hero.

Sunny Tonny is best performing SG bat though it is not their top range bat.

Sg are my marmite of Indian bats

I just don't like them I have only used 2 and thought both where horrible.

I have had two others I suspect made there and they where not great either..

I love most Indian brands but sg bats I tend to stay away from although there softs are top notch

I played with a lad he was sponsored by them played for the mumbai Indians U18( not to sure if thats true but he was class) he had 5 bats they all flew .

During 90s Sunny Tonny was the equivalent of SS TURBO/ Slaz V12 in India. Everyone wanted one.

Many players - including Dravid, Sachin, Azhar and Ganguly started their careers with one.  SG Sunny Tonny were considered to be the "lucky" bats by quite a few players.


Pretty sure it was downgraded only a few years ago - when SG COBRA was made their top grade bat. Later they changed to other models etc and downgraded the Cobra as well.

Vert true, you are spot on mate. I had two SG Cobra bats, both turned out to be ordinary but my friend who got sunny tonny was a monster of a bat.

I have a 2013/14 Sunny gold. Beautiful bat. Fantastic grains, huge bat for 2.9 and great pickup. Sounds great off the mallet. although i bought it with the intention of onselling I'm pretty sure it will get used by me instead.

Wonder what people's view are on SG bats after 3 years. Recently seen they are making some of the lovely looking bats going around and also exceptional performing bats too.
Anyone bought any SG bats recently to give opinions? And anyone changed their opinions on SG who were not impressed back 3 years ago?

Never owned an s.g but used a few sonny tonnys /players ed 4-5years ago and they were horrid planks . Recently a guy from India at my club had lent me his players ed , king cobra to use in nets and they are beautiful.  A bit too softly pressed perhaps  ( needed heaps of knocking in ) but great bats nonetheless.  I think they have upped their game recently . Another mate at my club who own a cricket gear store ( and stocks s.g ) thinks they are much improved recently too . B.t.w ....another u.k stockist of s.g are eclipseallsports. Oh , and as mentioned , their softs are very plush indeed .
