The aussies have heard of newbery? Theyre sold there!
In my opinion a big brand is a brand that sells in more than one country and has good quality bats!

If it was not for quality why would Puma get their bats made from Newbery???
Please dont make accusations unless you can prove them otherwise you could get yourself into trouble... prove or delete!

Hi,

Thanks for the caution. This is my first time on the forum.

Deleted the bit about P and NB. Though I have heard it from reliable sources I would not like to get the forum or myself into any controversies.

Thanks Leo.

Yes, the Newbery's sell in AUS too, but again I am not sure if they are as popular as the Kookaburra's or the GM's

Many bats made in India and Pakistan probably sell in more countries than Newbery but that does not make them big brands with exceptions.

Going by my experience, I would say Newbery's are more popular with slightly older players (thought the UZI has really picked-up among the younger players) and players with a more classical / technically correct playing style.

In fact, I plan to travel to Hove and get either a Newbery UZI or get my Puma Millichamp replicated.

Cheers for deleting Yash!
I would highly recommend a newbery Uzi - great bats! I had a 'players' (Grade 2 supposedly!) 18 straight grains!

Hi Leo,

I have been offered a UZI SPS for £170 (incl. postage and Hammer edge treatment). IS this a good price?

Or should I opt for a UZI C6+ which is £180 with extras as above

The positive is that I can get one to my own specs and with 16 or more grains....

yash, i would personally recommend the c6+, at only a tenner more it has got to be worth it.
i have used a c6+ and they are simply awesome bats.
£180 is a great price for a c6+ and £170 is a decent price for a sps model.

HOw does the carbon handle feel?

I tried carbon and titanium handles on the GNs but they felt very hard...maybe because of the self sticking grip they use...

are the Newbery carbon handles better?

Is the cane handle more stiffer than the carbon handle or is it the other way round?

Which gives more power to the shots?

i thought the carbon handle feels great on newbery's, i find it to be much better than the GN version they use on the pro performance models.
the carbon handle provides more power as it has a bit of flex in it, this is why they are being banned in 1st class cricket next year as they provide an unfair advantage.  from next year only a certain amount of another material can be used.
however because of the natural properties of carbon there may be a problem in a few of them, the GN ones had big problems with breaking so for this reason an sps may be better?

MCC did a good thing with putting it's foot down on such innovations

Also my observations are that (1) bats with carbon and titanium handles are not very popular outside the UK (maybe Aus to some extent) and (2) I do not know of any professional cricketer using bats with carbon and titanium handles.

The carbon shaft handles on the Puma Vendetta and baliistic range feels great. No idean about the carbon core in the Lavers though? Has one used the carbo lavers?

I think I would stick to the SPS, especially after reading the write-up on the C6+ on Newbery's website.

yes sticking to the sps may be a good idea, the willow is identical, the only differnece between the 2 is the handle.
i have used 3 lavers with carbon handles (legal ones) and have found them to be perfect, they give you a slight edge over your opposition but nothing to dramatic.  all 3 have pinged beautifully and the handle doesn't feel adversely different to a normal cane handle but the power it helps to produce is certaintly superior to its cane counterpart.  i think laver have got it spot on!

I'd go for the cane handle, it's the most widely used handle and has been pretty successful over the years. I'd go for the SPS @ £170, ask Talisman on here to sort you out though as he does gets some beauties. Check out his ebay also, BRIM313

I guess our source is the same - Mike Brimble....

I am getting one through Mike.

Wanted to pay him today but had to leave for Madrid on a very short notice.

Will finalize next week though
