The Stretton Fox thigh pads and body armour thread
« on: December 05, 2012, 02:46:40 PM »

FYI - these are less than a CM thick - if they look thicker it is because of the way the material is finished (fyi by hand) around the outside of the pad.

Delightfully these are machine washable so can always remain pristene.
The only downside is that you can't so easily draw matchstick men to mark all the hundreds you have scored in them so easily in a Mark Waugh kind of way ;)

Photos look very nice, Buzz, thanks for sharing - what do you reckon, then? And should we stock them?

well I have smashed my leg with the mallet many times now with the thigh pads on and they offer outstanding protection.
Certainly better than the GM LE set that I have. You can also shape them to fit your leg, which takes a little time and wear, so that they can become very comfortable.

what do you reckon, then?

I am a big fan - but haven't worn them in the nets yet. I am sure they will be superb

And should we stock them?
That depends how many people you think will be prepared to pay for them and what sort of financial outlay people are prepared to pay for thighpads and body protection.

On here there are about 600 regular users (people who look at the forum on a fortnightly basis out of more than 2000 registered mebers) of which I know of 6-8 who would invest, possibly more, let's say 12 to make the numbers easier - so you are looking at 2% of a fairly barmy crowd investing.

you have a good captive market and if they catch on - then great. I think most people will continue to buy the cheaper thigh pads.

My honest view is that you should consider stocking a few maybe as examples, but be able to offer to get people some at a fast turn around. I am not sure I would go out and buy 10 or 15 sets if I were in your shoes.

Buzz they look great. Just wondered how you go about ordering a set though?
Speak to Itsjustcricket and they will be able to order you some ;)

I'm sorely tempted, but I just think for the level I play at my P2's are fine, and this would just be an impulse buy.  However what appeals to me more than the protection that they offer is that they can be moulded to fit.

they may offer the best possible protection of anything on the market
but some strippers,be it p1/2/3 will suffice in pretty much everyones case and for half the price at least
these IMO are somewhat of a luxury peice of kit, very nice indeed, but dont really provide anything extra thats essential for any of us

despite this, I must say i am interested in getting myself a pair, which probably contradicts everything iv just said, but they look soooo nice and i deserve a treat for my legs because i bruise like a peach

At least with luxury goods you never really have to discount (and people still buy)! I really think George is onto something with these and I'm really excited about testing the water with a few sets in the new year...

am i right in thinking that if you want some of these you have 2 options?

firstly to order from a retailer, but they only have standard sizes? i.e. mens, large mens, youths

but if you require custom made ones, this is done through contacting SF directly? and using the pdf as a size guide???

is there therefore a difference in price?

I totally agree with what you say. I also bruise like a peach!

cricket badger, I am not sure about the cost of custom, but the ordering is as you suggest.

Hello to everyone on the CustomBats Forum and thank you to Buzz, ItsJustCricket and Roco for all your help and support during the launch of StrettonFox.

It's been really great to get everyones thoughts and feedback on the look and feel of the guards, as a company my intention is to create products that offer something different and a bit more "special". You guys are absolutely vital to this and its great to see people so motivated with equipment. As I operate individually I have full control, so any tweaks, ideas, adjustments will always be taken on board to get as close as possible to the perfect product.

The price point of the guards is always going to be a query, manufacturing every item by hand in the UK and using materials that have been developed specifically costs a lot in comparison to mass produced items from offshore. I worked in factory management in Asia for quite a long time prior to starting this and have seen both sides of the coin so was and will always be absolutely set on manufacturing and "flying the flag" for local production.

www.strettonfoxsports.com is the official site and I will be posting updates as often as possible with any news, testimonials, and anything related.

A big thank you to ItsjustCricket for the interest in stocking the product, we are definitely looking to do something together for the new year, and I think a official mallet test knock out session at the store might be in order so people can come and see how we compare to the competition !

I will post online over the coming weeks an "intro" video showing me using the guards, explaining how they work, how they shape, and all the things that come to mind and seem to be queried on the forum. If you have any specific questions you want to see answered please do not hesitate to contact me.

I have updated the templates that can be downloaded to try all the different standard sizes with a better filing system for sizing, left or right hand ect, hope this makes it easier to see.
All the templates are "standard" products, if anyone wants a completely bespoke shape this is always possible but will cost an additional £30 due to the time / adjustments ect involved in getting it just right.

Since starting trading I have over 100 pro UK players using the guards, the templates have come from working with each player and taking the average sizing between all the different shapes that have been made. Some of the bespoke work included guards for people recovering from broken limbs, with heart conditions, all sorts of different stuff so i'm pretty confident in the shapes being a good fit.

The technology came from a previous job working with creating thin body armour for riot situations, this stuff has come from a pretty awesome source and my contacts in this industry will be helping in developing some very exciting kit over the next few seasons. Starting with the guards, but soon moving on to an indestructible box that can stop a sledge hammer, pads, gloves and helmets. But all in due course as I can only develop as the company grows !

I will do my best to keep up to date with the forum, speak soon !

Have you got an email address as i had an email from a lad after a chest guard that I'd be happy to pass your way as its not our area of expertise.

Cheers
