Best ping to pickup ratio

Hi, im a new user but an old admirer of the forum. im looking for the best ping to pickup ratio between the Salix Praestantia Performance, the Choice Black Prince and, if i stretch my budget the Black Cat Shadow

Sadly no one could actually tell you that! Even two identical model bats will differ from each other.

All 3 bats will be great, as long as you get one suited to your game then that's all that matters.

That's a pretty tough question to answer, as all cricket bats vary even if they are the same shape! It's the first time I have heard anything like that being asked! :-[ I think responsiveness wise, they are all really top, and pick up wise, well, Salix are known for making bats with very good pick up, Gary at Choice is an exceptional batmaker from what I have heard and Charlie at Black Cat will make sure you get what you want!

Yeah impossible question to answer.find a bat that suits your game no-one's else's choice.
Salix are the best balanced bats ive personally had,others may think another brands pick up better

Welcome to the forum.

It may be best to weigh your current bat. Is it too heavy/too light/just right? Do you find you hit the middle consistently on the bat. The 3 bat makers you have listed are all different so that will make your decision a little tougher, so good luck.

I think there cannot be any such comparison.

Ping is dependent on the pressing and also on the bat speed a player generates.

Pick-up is dependent on the weight of the cleft, middle position, batsman's built etc.

the only thing common is the bat speed which is dependent on the middle position and bat speed generated. But bat speed is not as important as the pressing.

Is there a ping to price ratio?

We asked everyone who tested to rate on, essentially, Willow, Branding, Pick-Up and Performance, then we introduced a Price factor that lowered the total score as the price stacked up, in an attempt to determine Value for Money. You are talking about value for money. Isn't this is different for ping to price ratio?

Value for money is a more long term concept - what you get for your money and for how long.

But these are very subjective as we are comparing willow, which is a natural material and chances that all grade 1 bats at a particular price point will offer same quality is not possible.

Well, yes and no. We weren't looking at longevity, we were saying that a bat that costs GBP100 and pings and picks up well might be better value for money than one which feels brilliant but costs GBP350. It was an attempt to provide some form of guide.

The important thing to note, though, is that these were different bats and therefore would have had different characteristics, so even then, it was more a bit of fun than a scientific experiment.

Yeh - I think Edna was Marcus's first bat too.
The SAF bats on show were superb so was fun.
