Inner Thigh Pads
« on: February 24, 2013, 09:58:45 PM »

I have understood why anyone wuld need a inner thigh pad.  Surely if your getting hit there, there must be somrthing wrong with the batting technique. I have never worn one and never will also I have never been hit on the inner thigh. Not saying my technique is perfect but really dont see the point.  Is this the same with more on here or just me

Bottom edge a short one around 75 mph see if you put one on next  time

Why wear a helmet if your always watching the ball.

Things happen sometimes out off your control.

My opinion (so by no means perfect etc etc).

If you have never been hit on the inner thigh then I'd say your either awesome, the bowling isn't good or you've just been plain lucky. I've not been hit much on the inner thigh but it does happen. Usually from edges off the bat more than anything but has happened. If you face real pacey stuff that's nipping about then edges into or plain hitting it will happen.

I don't think they are 'needed' for most people as most people don't face the speed of bowling BUT it's there 'just in case'.. same as your helmet, box (because no one means to get hit there!) etc

I've been hit on the inner thigh - inside-edged a bouncy one.

It hurts like hell, and is second only to getting hit in the Plum-pouch.

If you ever got hit here, you would look into wearing one.

Couldnt tell you what the speeds i have faced  (dont carry a speed gun with me )  :D but faced some sharp stuff   and in now way my batting is perfect  maybe im lucky i havent got one there.  Been plumed once the box was in bits and had a few close shaves to the old tin lid  just my opinion thats all

Doesn't take much to get hit there. Either squaring yourself up or edging it there, it's a painful spot.

My take on protection is if it makes you more comfortable while batting, go for it.

I like to wear an aero stripper because it just makes me comfortable at the crease, thats just my preference. It is also a really fleshy spot so getting hit there really hurts. Also being on Australia pitches i've heard there alot bouncer so might get one a bit higher.

I never used to use an inner thigh guard but have used strippers since I started playing again. Got a new shamrock outer thigh only and the game I wore that I typically got hit on the inner thigh when I tried to pull one and it didn't bounce as much. Hurts a bit and I'll be using inner thigh guards in future.

I think attitude to padding has changed, when I was a kid you were slagged off for wearing a lid and now a lot of people do regardless of the level they play. Similarly I'm sure aero and other makes sell a lot of their other types of padding like arm and chest guards.

Inner thighs are a must! Hurts like hell if you get there.
If you've never been hit you're a very lucky man. I'd say the higher up you play the more frequently you get hit there. More pace, swing and seam movement. Don't think technique plays a massive role here, it's basically just a matter of time before you get one.

I have worn one since day one of my cricket career. Its certainly saved me on numerous occasions. Can't see an argument against it, they are not exactly large or intrusive.

I agree - best wear one!
I never used to wear one when I played Sunday friendlies and never really got hit there. But a decent bowler came to the nets one week and I wore one on the fleshy part! It took 2 weeks for the bruise to go and it was sore for at least the first week! Then after the 2 weeks I wore another one in the same place from the same bowler and I had tears in my eyes! It was sore for another week, and I went out and purchased an inner thigh pad!!!  :(
When I play 2nd XI I rarely face the quality of bowling where they swing it at high speed (I did with Cowley Jason, as your boys are 70mph+ which is not on for 2nd XI  ;))
But when I play 1st Xi, it's something that happens more often! The bowlers can generally move the ball around more and swing it in or out! Then you end up edging the odd ball, particularly when you first go out to bat! And inside edge into your inner thigh does hurt unless you're wearing one! I wear P2 pads as they do offer half decent protection and are not too bulky! But there are sme even thinner and more protective pads around if you look at recent topics, if you can afford the top protection?

Tbf, I wear strippers and OSM pads, and every time a deliver will find the tiniest of gaps where the pads leave a cm of open whites to hit. If I didn't wear an inner pad I might as well paint a target on there.

There's a spot that for some reason I get hit in (usually off an edge or something).. It's literally between the thigh pad adn pads.. I've had a bruise there now for two weeks (sustained from the bowling machine). Since doing it I'm fully aware that if I wear another on there I'm going to be crying!!

I wear the aero P1 strippers however manage to get hit just where there's a little gap from the top hat of the pad to the strippers :(
