He's out and lets hope the operation is a success.
Swanny is our best spinner since....god knows when!!
We need him for the ashes

Yep. I was listening to something on the way from nets a few mins ago and they were saying he's desperate to play in the next two ashes series but is really struggling with his elbow and has been for a while. Without him we aren't stuffed but we would certainly lose a bit of bite.

Tredders can do a job as well, definitely best of the rest for off spin and undoubtedly better than anything Australia will have...

Monty is a a good bowler and it would be good to see England developing a long term replacement to swann anyway (otherwise we'll be like Australia are now in a few years!!).

Swann is a fair bit ahead of our next best though in my opinion. Root seems to do a job, Tredwell keeps it tight so could be an option. Monty has to be in currently though. I love monty but man he is shocking at batting and fielding!!

Could this be a reason to give someone else a go in this series? No disrespect intended but if England are going to experiment, New Zealand are probably the side to do it against, especially with the current schedule.

NZ are certainly one of the teams (currently) in world cricket when it's an acceptable risk to blood one or two for the future so to speak. Them and the WI's are another one currently. So the likes of Root, Bairstow, Taylor and a young spinner (who is our young exciting prospect of a swann replacement by the way???)... Please don't say Briggs!

Would it be Borthwick?

Could be. I'll leave that musing to someone more familiar with County Cricket. I don't watch much County Cricket I'm ashamed to say so don't know it too well or it's up and coming players.

Simon Kerrigan? David Wainwright had a very good season as well. Azeem Rafiq has talent as well. Shame about Adil Rashid not having progressed how he should have... But definitely not Danny Briggs! Please don't be Danny Briggs... :(

I cant take anyone seriously as a cricketer with the same name as a character after whom a tv series was named in the eighties... Danny Briggs? Are you sure that's not just a stage name?

Hopefully the ECB are bring through the next crop of 20 something spinners and eyeing up the next batch of 15/18 yr old ones too. Build on the success and ensure future success.

It's a fair should about Broad and Patel getting in so maybe Briggs deserves a few caps too :) ALthough we have also given Bell a load of caps so there's something wrong somewhere :) :) :)
