Pitch is looking flat though, type of situation Prior could stand up and become a hero. Not that drawing with New Zealand should make him a hero...

Not sure what people's problem with Root is.  In his debut test in India he made a match saving/series winning 70 odd when the rest of the batting failed.  In the first couple of tests here he was run out by the cretin Bell, got one good ball and played one poor shot.  In this game, he showed more gumption than the other five batsmen first time round and looked good till one slid on to him second.  To me, he has done nothing but demonstrate both potential and potential class (and yes, I'd take his 70 odd in India when nooone else stoo up to be counted over Compton's tons any day).

Its been like Piers Morgan's twitter feed on here recently, there is no middle ground we are either brilliant or the worst england have ever produced. That's the English medias fault for overhyping us for years.

I don't think the media hyped us up for years, under Strauss England were a top class team. But it is slightly cut throat, people are calling for Joe Root to be dropped now, but when he hits hundred after hundred at the start of the County Championship will anyone want to stick with that decision?

The class of 2005 were labelled greats and then got demolished in 06/07 its what us English do. The Football team is an even better example.

interesting stat in the cricketer this month
Since the 2010-11 Ashes up until march 6th 2013;

Australia have played 22, won 12, lost 5
 England have played 22, won 10, lost 7

and at no point has even the most confident Australian believed that they are playing anywhere near the type of standard required.
