Indoor club net rant.
« on: March 18, 2013, 10:51:11 PM »

Having gone back to my old club after a year out, nets have been going well, until tonight when I went to put my pads on 2nd, and upset of the guys that's an all rounder. He then in turn decided to persuade all the quicks to bowl bouncers. I think I had one ball that was in my half of the wicket off the quicks. In my view this is absolutely f-ing no point in quicks doing this when we are going to end up first game on a pudding and there going to get smashed everywhere. People who know me, will obviously know I'm not the tallest of lads, so it's not difficult to get the ball head/over my head on a indoor surface. So basically I had a net where all I did was block and duck. Completely defeats the object of preseason nets.

Anyone else got (No Swearing Please) holes like this at nets?

feel for you mate, that's shocking.  I had a guy today who was actually sharp on the indoor track who kept bowling short. Fortunately I just got out the way and carried on but I feel your pain mate. It is completely pointless and show's them up for the ............ that they are. Find another club mate!! One without idiots.

Most of the lads are alright, it's just the one guy I've never gotten along with who things he's barry big b0llocks and needs knocking down a peg or two.

I'll just go into the bowling machine net next week doesn't bother me, but feels like I've been robbed of my practice this week.

A club without idiots doesn't exist.

You'd have enjoyed our net on Sunday then. The flooring is like a spongy rubber, so everything you'd normally drive on a half volley is up around your ears. Makes the quick guys seem quicker and bouncier, and is ultimately a waste of time for the batsman!

Biggest problem with most indoor nets in my opinion the surface is nothing like outdoors.

If it was me in the nets I would have stopped the bowlers and had a word with them, or at least the captain/senior member would have at our club as if we get some lads banging it short the old shout of "pitch it up" goes out to them.

We also enforce 5 press-ups for bowlers who bowl wides/no balls etc so I'd have had them down learning to pitch it up pretty quickly if they persisted with the short stuff!!

We have to pay £4 a session at our nets so everyone needs to ensure they get value for money rather than wasting each others time.

What I say to all bowlers in are nets if you can't bowl out side why bother indoors as all they will do when out side to bowl sort and when bowl in nets at a batter it praticeing your skills not let's see if we can kill the batter

Simple solution Wilkie.... Knock him out... He won't do it again

Agree its a joke; I'm debating not going tonight as its pointless, you get medium pacers who struggle to get it down the other end outdoors just trying to bang it in every ball, I hate indoors as the surface just flies through, in a lot of cases it looks like the ball picks up pace off the surface, then when you go outside your (No Swearing Please).

Our indoor nets seem to be the opposite.  Doesn't matter where the ball pitches, it doesn't get above ankle high!  At least it teaches you to pitch up...

Just bowl it from 19  yards and let a beamer go!  Stand your ground against the (No Swearing Please)!
