Yeah, it's a bit annoying but it happens. I can understand that the bowlers like to see it fly through at head height in the nets as outside not many have the pace to do it. Also they are less likely to get smashed around in the nets which the batters tend to try and do when it's pitched up. Nets tend to be unrealistic anyway and people bat and bowl very differently when out in the middle. In general winter nets are pretty much used as a bit of a social and in terms of development are pretty much a waste of time imho Instead a bowling machine setup to practice specific shots for batters is far more productive

If batting against the short stuff though I'd try to look on it as a challenge and look to hook, pull and duck as need be you might as well get something out of it....

You don't need a job mate, just a sewing machine and some material and you'll be off... you can call them Soft Pouches for our antipodean cousins!  :D

Very true that when we net. I am always very annoyed when the quicks try and bowl bouncers. I am only 14 and they can only do this inside or in hard surfaces ( never in England. So I don't see the point trying to bowl them. It is not a true reflection on the game.

I would have informed whoever was collecting the money that I wouldn't be paying for the session.

I wouldn't have bowled at anyone who did this either. I would have still stood there at the top of the run up, leading to that inevitable delay where every other bowler thinks im Going To run in, eventually one of them gets fed up waiting and runs in to bowl instead. This 'dead' time winds the batsman up no end. When he moans at me, a quick wink and a comment along the lines of 'Shall I bowl pointless bumpers at you mate?' Should suffice.

Short stuff is ok as a variation, but it's absolutely pointless every single ball. And the reasons your guy has for doing it are pathetic Wilkie. I'd be telling him what a pathetic drip he is at every opportunity, in front of as many team mates as possible.

I like your thinking, at Uni we had people bowling bouncers nearly every ball (the place we currently train at is rather bouncy) so we told them to pack it in cause it's garbage to bat against, not helpful at all!

Reading this I am a little jealous as I would love to net somewhere where the ball gets above the knee roll. Our openers are both about 70 maybe a few mph more and it is not possible to bowl anything short.

On the point of the bloke that's a tool, in all honesty I would just tell him he is a tool and that he bowled really well and you can't wait to see him take top order league batters apart with his rapid pace, I always find the sarcastic comment works really well.

Wilkie

How have your club nets been over the past few weeks, has that idiot stopped bowling short at you?
