Ooh, heavy bats, my specialist subject.

If you are going for a Tendulkar style profile, you need to accept that it will, more or less, pick up its weight come what may - the only similar thing I've seen that doesn;t is a modified Hattori that Matt made me last year, which maybe comes in an ounce light in feel.  If you want to feel like you haven't got a 3lb-ER, you need a higher spine, which elongates the middle and seems to give a knife like pick up (M&H Distinction and H4L Tempo in my possession both feature this) or look for a light weight cleft - which usually means one that is not so cosmetically sppealing (I have a 3lb Powerbow Extreme that doesn't feel anything of the sort).

Was just checking this out......kinda speechless! That spine...

Ryan's bat he just made for me at 3lbs is incredibly well balanced honestly can't believe it's that heavy picks up as a 2'13.

Ha! Slightly shorter blade with longer handle. Another intriguing option. No wonder you chaps have so many bats!

Hang on a sec, it's not just about the pick-up. Pete got his hands on an Icon that weighed a little over three pounds that was allegedly one used by Ravi Bop.

The pick-up on this bat was stunning. There was no way on earth it felt like a 3lb+ bat. Stunning. And then we all came to use it. And behold the curse of the three pounder struck. All of us were used to something between about 2lb 10oz and 2lb 12oz. All of us were late with our shots, slow aligning the bat with the ball, etc, to such an extent that you could see the delay as we were facing the bowling machine.

That's not to say that we couldn't relearn our muscles to cope with a heavier bat, or build up strength to do it. Simply that in order to make such a significant jump in weight, there was a clear impact to it.

So while lightweight pick-up on a heavier bat is important, it isn't just that that affects the way you play, as you still have to be able to time and propel the bat in a fashion that means you aren't getting bowled/edges/are sticll scoring runs, and that adjustment may take a lot longer.

I have seen a bat Sachin had used as a net bat and the pick up on that beast was mindblowing. It was a 2.14 with zero concaving but it felt way lighter than any of the concaved 2.12s I have used. But we mortals shouldn't expect such extraordinary pick up I suppose.

Fair point. I won't be going beyond 2.12 for sure.

This is mine mate. Very close to a Tendulkar profile, but weighs 2.8 and goes like sh*t off a shovel. It's probably the closest you would ever get to that shape at that weight.

I got lucky ;)

That is still to this day, the best looking bat on this forum! You're a lucky boy! ;)

The Sachin Tendulkar profile from RNS. They have made a good number of bats for the little master in recent years so hoping for a cracker of a bat. Long handle, slightly shorter blade and 2.12...
