Thoughts and ideas please.
« on: April 18, 2013, 12:47:59 PM »

Ok, so I have not got round to thinking about fixing the H4L which faste(r)eddie did a number on........

Do any of the bat makers out there fancy having a go, and can it be saved.

I've got the piece which flew out.

Personally I would attempt to glue and clamp the piece into where it once was. Then I would try and put a dowel through the top and bottom and cross my fingers.

Im almost 100% sure that it cannot be saved.

Im guessing Matt was also of the same opinion hence you got a replacement?

Could be saved by either gluing the old piece back in, or grafting in a new piece of willow. A dowel would hold it in place :)

Look forward to it appearing in the sale/swap section "superficial damage near the toe, and repaired by the top batmaker, and a dowel inserted only as a precaution..."

Gary @Choice gave it last rites, but I'm interested in exploring the options. It might be worth spending a few £'s and I might get lucky.

Shorten it and make it into a catching bat

Pedals bat was fixed and it was similar to this. Pretty sure if you still have the piece and you get it glued into place and dowelled it my hold for a while, but obviously there will be no set time it will hold and may blow out at any time

I'd square it off and make a fielding bat for catching practice.  I don't think it's worth repairing.  Once the toe goes it's hard to repair due to the vulnerability of the area. The toe receives a lot of abuse.

Good advice.
I think I will go down that route.

I'll post a pic when it's done.
