England vs New Zealand - Round 2
« on: May 03, 2013, 06:11:01 PM »

With less than two weeks to go till the first test the lack of chatter on here about this series is interesting. It probably reflects how lowly regarded the NZers are and that the focus is on the Ashes later in the year, all of which I can understand.

I sense a great opportunity for NZ to fly in under the radar and scupper a few players Ashes dreams of glory.

(Taylor and McCullam have been released early from the IPL to join the team, doubt if they will sit next to each other or even be on the same plane)

I expect England to win this - pitches with a bit of life in them will not suit the NZ batsmen - though I think it might give the Australians a bit of hope as once again we see that England's batting is subject to stress

Who out of the Lions playing today need to perform well to retain their Test place or is anyone on the cusp needing just a good showing to force their way in?

I think that the usual side will play the 1st game except from KP.

Cook, Compton, Trott, Bell, Root, Bairstow, Prior, Broad, Swann, Finn, Anderson?

I hope for their sake that Root and Bairstow will perform and do well. Not really sure who would come in instead of them! James Taylor?

If NZ team perform to the best of their ability, then they are capable of an upset.
All you need is a couple of their batsmen commanding soe high scores and their bowling attack bowling well as a unit, and you never know!
Obviously England are favourites but I just hope that England will not be complacent about NZ!!!

The only thing that I get annoyed about is that Sky Sports show County matches and other matches that are not always at a decent level. And yet they are not showing this Lions v NZ match!  ???
Nothing wrong with County matches and they generally concentrate on the 40 and 20 over matches, rather than the longer versions. But it would have been ideal if Sky would have just put together an hour of the Highlights from the Lions NZ match at the end of each day?

I've got Trent Boult on for series wicket taker, hopefully he stays fit and gets some swing going!
Hope Lords isn't as flat as eveyone has said so far this year!

For the ignorant (or me, who can't be bothered looking it up right now), when does the first test start? Can I expect to flick the box on when I get home and be greeted by some test cricket today?
