Sport is full of highs and lows - I had a decent first knock last week; cover drives and cuts for four, then played first 40-0ver at the weekend, felt in great nick. Opened the batting chasing a modest 153, home game, locals watching a got a 4th ball duck!
Ball held up and I checked a shot straight into mid offs hands! I'm blaming the new B3; timed it to perfection... Absolutely gutted and was self-analysing days into this week! I came to the conclusion that my form in the nets and in my T20 game has ultimately put me in good stead for the season, provided I learn from my mistake. A couple of poor knocks do not define your summer.
When you bat, trust your ability and remember to breathe. Sounds simple, but a few deep breaths before every ball will relax the hands and have you thinking more clearly. Then you are focussing on the ball and not your 'chimp brain' (the one that gives you irrational thought). Don't do anything that gets you out of your comfort zone/routine, but by conciously taking a few deep breaths it will allow you to access your optimal zone of functioning...
Don't give the game up; you play and contribute to this forum because of your love for the game. Enjoy it and remember early season is always more difficult for batsmen!
