Agreed, this is the deck at a team in my Saturday league. It has gained a rep as a road, and certainly looks like one. This was it before the game a few weeks ago, it was the first time i've played on it for a number of years. It played like my back garden, two paced, inconsistent bounce and i reckon i could have turned one square on it too, our openers were bowling off cutters that were pitching outside off and missing leg. Awful!

Reminds me of when I played at Thorner Mexborough a couple of seasons ago. I bowled one deliver that bounced shoulder high from a length bowling spin. As you say Jake, it had inconsistent bounce and made chasing 120 hard work. Nice ground though. Problem is shaving all the grass off actually can make things worse. The ball sticks in the wicket and slows up instead of skidding off.  My old man use to keep as much grass on as he could and it made a good contest between bat and ball:-

Not far, St Ives. Warboys are in the league below us.

Just to add, it doesn't really belong in the worst grounds i have played at. St Ives is a nice ground, and i know enough people who relish batting there. It was obviously an odd set of conditions that contributed to it playing so much worse compared to the way it looked.

here's wilmington

That Wilmington track is the worst I have ever played on, not played there in a couple of seasons thank god, there is a huge hill that runs towards the pavilion and it can go any where off a length, looks ok in that pic but my god its a poor deck.

I recognise this place....... The games I have played at home this season haven't been too bad, its turned big since the hot weather but early this season it offered assistance for bowlers and value for runs for batsman.

Haha was wondering how long until someone picked out the ground of another member!
Not the worst ground but a few years back the oppo groundsman called a game off and the home side were so keen to play us that cut a damp strip off the square and painted some lines on it themselves. Needless to say it was somewhat testing to bat on

2 places this year have been the worst places I've played for many a year. First up was Westinghouse in Chippenham where they hadn't cut the outfield for weeks so the aerial route was the only way to score boundaries, the square is about 10cm above the outfield meaning you have a cracking step to go up on your delivery stride, sight screens tucked in amongst the trees so they were next to useless but a lovely bunch of lads so will give them the benefit of the doubt. Worse though was Langford (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Langford,+Oxfordshire&hl=en&ll=51.720394,-1.645886&spn=0.001524,0.004128&sll=47.73855,12.508828&sspn=54.037521,135.263672&oq=langford+ox&hnear=Langford,+Oxfordshire,+United+Kingdom&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=51.720394,-1.645886&panoid=tSaAQhKrljX-mgeZrf88Iw&cbp=12,48.24,,0,-4.91) right in the middle of the warm spell. Picturesque setting but the pavillion is an airless shed that fits 3 players, the outfield is farmland that never got levelled after ploughing so is like a big green McCoys crisp. The track was a shocker though. They said its usually so damp that there is never any bounce but because of the dry spell, the ball was bouncing over our heads from a good length and even though we were getting pummelled they continued with their quicks. Horrible, horrible field. Horrible, horrible team.

When we were a new club over here in Melbourne and we didn't have a ground we were at the mercy if the local council. For one season we had to play on this ground that was had so much sand in it it was effectively a beach! This meant shots along the ground went nowhere and you couldn't drive on it as it would shred elbows/knees/whites!!! Awful place but not bad memories as I scored a ton on debut in a35 over game coming in at first drop in the 10th over!!!!!

Pak Shaheen in the Warwickshire League, the outfield is ropey at best, and the wicket is a shocker, or it was on Saturday anyway. The first ball of our innings was a length ball that cleared the openers head by a foot! One ball would fly, and the next one smack you on the ankle, truly shocking!

they had a (No Swearing Please) hole of a ground when we played them years ago, some municipal effort in lemington.....tea was the worst i've ever experienced in 20 years of cricket

they've climbed the league in recent years and believe they have recently bought their own ground in a village somewhere? guess it will take time to bed in

ward end and lyndworth are nother warwick league (No Swearing Please) holes

I was posting it in the context of tracks playing differently to how they look, that day at your place was a great example. St Ives has a good rep and rightly so from talking to guys who play there more regularly than me. I think I told you it was a road when you came to the shop in the winter ;)
