My Salix Pod returns!
« on: May 24, 2013, 11:44:31 AM »

My much loved Salix Pod has sat in the loft for over a season or so now consigned to the scrapheap with 2 large cracks by the handle and blade. I took it to Roger Weston at Solitaire to see if he'd have a look. He said the handle needed replacing and he could glue the cracks at the top of the blade. It's a bit of a risk as it could be a waste of money because it could brake very quickly, but equally it might last. For £35 as opposed to nearly £400 for a new one I felt it was worth a go. After all it was a truly special bat. He's done an amazing job on it and I added the remaining stickers I had left over from a previous refurb. I have to say I think it looks stunning and I'm over the moon with the final result. Just have to keep my fingers crossed now.

Looks like a not bad job, hope it lasts out a while! What weight is it at now?

I'm the first one to turn away big edges, but that does look featherlight?!

Crack doesn't look too bad mate. If you like, you could bind the shoulder with twine, but it should be fine without.

Just thought I'd give an update on how the repaired pod's going. Played a few weeks ago and hit one right up by the shoulder crack. Sounded bad so swopped bats mid innings as thought it had gone. After getting it home saw that crack hadn't got any bigger so decided to give it another go. Played last night and it sure isn't broke! Hit 51 off 33 balls, including 3 sixes, one of which was the biggest I've ever hit. Cleared the top of an oak tree well outside the boundary.  Looks like money well spent.
