As the season is now over, nets have been taken down, sightscreens & covers dismantled and the square put to bed for the winter, it's time to turn our attention to indoor cricket.
I thought I'd start a topic where we could share our experiences through the indoor season (much like the Your 2013 season thread). My firt game is 13th October (if selected that is)

As a footnote one of the bowlers said "you want a bat that doesn't go so well, then you have more chance to run when you hit the side wall" my response was "stick to bowling, use the same bat you normally do and either target the boundary wall, or play with soft hands!"
Does anyone else buy into his theory or is it a load of b/s as I thought? (And has anyone ever gone into a shop and said "I want a bat with no middle for indoor cricket please")

As I use a twig anyway I'd struggle to find something lighter for indoor haha

As far as not many people liking it I can understand that, I'm not hugely keen myself, so am playing in our B team at the "smaller venue" as a favour to the people running the side (I had planned just to net this winter)

Is this the English version of indoor cricket where you play in a cramped sports hall, the batsman have to run the full 22 yards and you use an outdoor ball so fielding is just a lottery of how long before you wear one! Or the Aussie version in a netted cage where you only need to run halfway, the balls a bit softer so don't need pads and fielding much safer and its fast and intense?

English version sucks! Long time ago now but had a Aussie style centre by me. Played a lot throughout the winter, great game and helped me improve as a player immensely.

Our first indoor match was today. We put on 169 in 12 overs and bowled them out for 140ish.

Started my indoor season with a 1st baller bowled around my legs. First time ive ever been bowled aroundmy legs. Felt very wierd!

The league I played in today is softer ball in a netted cage but still need to wear pads.

There's 6 fielders in a cramped sports hall, the batsman have to run the full 22 yards and it's a lighter (plastic) ball that swings uncontrollably. Pads are required and the fielding is fine if you aren't scared of the ball and keep paying attention 

Basic rules are 12 overs a side,  1 run for hitting the side or front wall, 3 if you hit the side or front wall and run, 4 and 6 for hitting the back wall, 3 for a wide or no ball that doesn't get re-bowled (except for the last over) and batsmen retire on 25 (but can come back and last man stands).  You can be caught off the ceiling and side walls so it does teach you tap and run, playing along the floor and playing with soft hands. As for being fast & intense, how does 24 overs an hour sound??

No not scared as always fielded in short square leg position with no protection in indoor cricket I played in. Just saying running 22 yards when the best you can do is hit it 5 yards from the stumps is daft and slows the game down. Version I played was fast, none stop and exciting. Bat in pairs for 4 overs and lose 5 runs if you get out but you bat on for your overs. Played along side and against a number of county and England players who played it. They enjoyed it and felt kept them in nick, especially fielding.

So it's a soft ball and you are playing pairs cricket on a shortened wicket?? In England we call that colt's cricket

I've always found that format of indoor cricket to look quite frankly ludicrous but I guess it might be fun. Seems much further from actual cricket than the sort that's generally played here

Awesome stuff there! I play That kind of indoor cricket aswell our center is a all year round center so i never not play cricket. Currently in A grade and we have won the last 2 finals. We are off to a bit of a shaky start to the new season tho.

As a little boast I captained Stephen Fleming in the above form of the game, many Canterbury first class cricketers used to play the inter club season, Chris Harris was by far the best I played against in this form of the game, simply outstanding.

does anyone nknow of any indoor cricket leagues/teams in the north west? nearer to blackpool the better.

Ill be playing it in our second side but I hate the stuff tbh, feel its completely alien to 'normal' cricket so much prefer to let those that want to play play. Pointless game but better than nothing if you are not the sort to want to do proper winter training. Just my opinion of course.
