Guys,
My name is James, I'm a bat addict and its been 6 months since my last bat purchase.
I honestly cant believe it, the seasons just finished, our square still looks playable (well i've played on worse) and i'm already fighting a losing battle against the 'i NEED a new bat urge'.
I'm not a bat collector or a hoarder, I turn the bats over and sell them on when they have 'stopped working' also known as 'I fancy a new one' but this can be quite costly in itself.
I'm currently employing the trusty old strategy of 'see if there are any proper bargains on any auction websites' to try and stop or delay a costly new bat purchase. Ive also bought some new grips and tape to see if tarting up my old bat scratches the itch (this is the equivalent of asking the wife to wear the nurses uniform to bed).
To put my problem into perspective: 1) my Chase FLC looks like new. 2) Its wasted on me anyway. 3) I'm primarily an opening bowler and bat 7 or 8. 4) Truth be told i'm actually proper crap at batting.
I'm naming this new bat urge CMS - 'Cricket Magpie Syndrome' (nice shiny things, no wonder the crafty bat manufacturers use reflective stickers!!).
The worst thing about this all is that I know in the dark recesses on my mind and my heart that i'm kidding myself here, the decision is already made. As soon as you buggers start posting the new Xmas bats on this forum or photo's from next years pre-season trade shows I just know I'll crumble and I'll be in for another one.
I will as always: 1) Try and hide or justify this purchase to the wife - she'll 'sh** a brick either way'. 2) Justify this to myself with crap excuses such as - you always need 2 bats, what if one broke, they take a good while to knock in. (i've probably only batted 6 times this season in all).
Does anyone else suffer with this as badly as I do?
Thank you for listening and letting me share my pain - (please do my bank balance a favour and delete my account and my access to this forum).
On another note: anyone got the chase FLC R11 pads and can tell me if they are any good as you ALWAYS need 2 pairs of pads!!!!!
J
