For some manufacturers....For example Kookaburra their pads are designed to have the buckles on the outside of the pad. This is because their lead leg has 9 canes as opposed to 7 I think it is. Therefore the two pads are different and it makes it obvious which pad is for which leg. For some pads though i don't think it makes a big difference as some pads match exactly I believe.

My Ayrtek pads are exactly the same I think,so I don't think it matters.

I used to have straps in the inside, but found it annoying that the velcro of one side would catch on the other pad

The brand less ones off eBay, shouldn't squeak or wear through

P.S the quality of the coating isn't as good as some other makes so your OCD may not like that so much as it may wear through easier

The puma instep set up that nick posted on page one is the most hard wearing, I think the mongoose super premium pads have the same

I use the uzi sports green mambas on my brief visits to the crease - seem to be wearing well, but I'm mostly only walking to and from the crease.

Yes - you take the £40-60 you were going to invest in new pads and buy coaching with the money instead and keep your current pads.

Got to be some Classic GM Purists.....

Maybe two strap Bas/Morrants etc would be worth a try?

Or storm trooper pumas?

Maybe you are wearing your pads quite low down, hence the rubbing with boots/the pitch against the instep? I will inspect my pads for rubbing tonight as I wear mine low down.
