DIY Cracked Toe Repair

Picked this bat up from Steve MSR via one of his eBay listings as a net/ wet weather bat.

It's new but has a crack on the toe towards the back/ edge of the blade. Wondering if I should DIY repair this or possibly needs so professional attention?

sorry i cant be much help with the toe. but i also bought a bat from his ebay listing a while ago which had a split in the shoulder was a bargain at £26 for a net bat.

just wondering what you thought of the actual bat though

I wouldn't do anything with it until the crack opened up more.  Otherwise you could damage it when forcing it open.

If it is a net bat, there is little point spending a lot of money on a professional fix, unless you have one very local to you.

I would do it yourself.

Whether to do it now or wait as per Ryan, that would be up to you.

I had a look at the pics in your other post but can't really make out the crack...? Did you pay £26 inc delivery? How long has it lasted?

I had a cheap MSR before which was again massive for the size but split from the toe upwards. It was over dried.

This one is no exception; 2lb 8.5oz inc the grip bit massive edges and reasonable spine.

...But I'm inclined to agree with you here Ryan as although it moves ever so slightly when pressed I think it would split completely if I tied to prise it apart to glue.

Problem is I wanted to add a toe guard as it's like to be a wet weather/ all surface bat should I refrain from doing that?

Thanks, appreciate the offer however as said it will become uneconomical by the time postage etc is added.

Would end up costing what a normal lower grade might cost from MSR...

Was hoping I could get some advice about risking it or a DIY fix

I'd be inclined to open the crack slightly (if possible) fill with watered down glue and clamp. Then put a dowel in there and wrap tightly with tape.

I have used a couple sewing pins to gently wedge the crack open and use some diluted glue, and clamped it using cut rubber grips. I find spiral grip rings the best to use.

Why don't you try dropping some watered down pva or superglue down the crack.  Or you could glue it back on if it does fall off or get worse.

I may just try some watered down glue and some tape. I guess for the price it wouldn't be too upset if the piece came off and I had to glue it back on.

jwebber86, to answer your question - the bat responds well off the ballet but I'm glad I bought a light weight as the pick up is about it's weight. Which is a little surprising given the high middle. I remember the one I had before being all round a really good bat. Would be interested to hear how yours plays.
