I sent a 1991 M&H original to James Laver and it came back looking brand new apart from the surface cracks. They could have done a much better job.

How certain are you that this would work? I could try it on the back to see it it works. If it does I can do the front!

It depends on the oil.  I had some really old stuff that was quite dark, but the new stuff is quite clear.  If you can find some coloured stuff, that'd be best.

Yeah Torque, that's the one. Thanks :) However, there was a before  pic that showed how mangled it really was.

One of our new team members has this 10 year old laver & wood bat. Its a big bat almost 3 lbs and still going strong.
There is no crack but just the surface chipping out
I removed the face sheet and just cleaned the glue off from the sheet. What's the best way to work on this bat ?
I can sand the face but i am afraid if a big piece chips out from the surface
here are the pics:

Here you go!  :)

Tbh I think mine was in a worse condition that!

Nevermind though this was never intended to be a match bat but more towards a net bat! Weighs the same as my DS custom so it can play second fiddle to that

Agree with earlier posts that a light oiling would of helped to keep the blade the same colour.

NO nick just poor sanding oil will make the darker bits go darker and not so dark bit bit darker just needs more time spend on it looks like its been done by 7 year old sorry newbury but that's what I think

Oh well, there is not much I can do to be honest now. It is just a Shame that the bat meant something to me - Newbery just saw it as an old bat that was in the way of Kudus bat making! It came back a mess. I feel like I should have just left it as it was and kept it as decor.

True that it would, but the contrast between a brown and darker brown would be a lot less noticeable than brown and white as it is now.
