Yes and initally his first 3 in Innings away from India he only scored 31 runs

Think in his last 3 though he has scored 250 though.

So he has only played on wickets that in the old days would have been called "Featherbeds"
Not sure the Wanderers against Steyn and Morkel can be called a featherbed.

Actually, not sure Morkel bowled much second innings. But it does show he has the potential to score runs on pitches with a bit of pace.

Class  v Crap for me

Thats a bit harsh but quite close  :D
Another could be  "future legend" vs "Need Lot of work to be number 3"

Steveo1000 I was refering to the wickets he played on at home. However didn't South Africa just fall short in a massive run chase in that match in thde 4th innings mate.

Playing SA in SA is a task and against the best attack in the world (icc rankings), he is, at this stage, a class above root. Another way to look at it is if you had to choose between root and pujara to score a 50 or you lose your life which one would u choose.

Root - hyped up by the English media on the back of a decent debut. Could well be the next superstar but needs to work a lot to live up to the hype surrounding him.

Pujara - run machine! Easily the better of the two players, will have a great career as he's truly world class.

Pujara benefits here from having a longer apprenticeship in first class cricket - Root will be a world class player in time but sometimes seems to be just a little short of experience, mentally as much as anything.

Class  v Crap for me

This is very disrespectful and I would expect better to be honest!
He has proved he's not crap, although is a 'work in progress'!

I feel that Root needed a year or two to really learn more! Or at least keep him lower down the order whilst he is learning and gaining experience at this level! And even now, bell should be batting at 3 and root at 5!
I have always rated Pujara and his FC record is superb and shows his quality!
He has come in at the right kind of age and experience and is showing his true class. He is going through a period of good form so won't always score lots of runs. But he certainly looks a very high class batsman and the Indian team have rebuilt their batting line up superbly and are looking like a quality line up!!

So far Pujara has looked the better of the two players. It will be very interesting to see how the two do this Summer.

Well, depends on

Bowlers
Pitch type
Overhead conditions
Ball condition
Batsman application

Not a straightforward decision

The only time they have played in a series together, in India 2012/13 Root ended up with a better tour average. 1-0 to Root going into the summer I reckon  ;)

Root's footwork is rubbish for a top order batsman. Even Yorkshire's finest, Boycott, said as much.

Pujara's recovery from 2 ACL surgeries has been surprisingly good. And his footwork hasn't declined after two major injuries.

Harsh bunch you lot. Pujara is older and has played 90 first class matches to Root's 57. Root's shown both bottle and ability in his short career so far, I think he'll play for England for a long time and do a good job.
