Heavyweight Harrow
« on: January 04, 2014, 11:50:52 AM »

Hi Guys, I am 5'8" and am considering trying a Harrow this upcoming season. I thought it might improve my technique, save me money or enable me to buy a better quality/performing bat for the same money.

I have read some threads related to this on here but am interested in peoples views on this.

I am also interested in recommendations for heavyweight Harrow bats 2.07 and heavier that may be out there although I know weight would be down to an individual bat to a degree. Some must come up generally heavier.

Thanks.

The bat to the right is 2'9. The other 3 are 2'7. I have them in stock specifically with the 'bigger' child or the slightly smaller adult in mind.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Please drop me a PM or post on here any suitable Harrows you may have. The M&H CK22 in Harrow is tempting!

Anyone out there actually gone down this Harrow road that can share their experiences of it?

As above i'm around 5'8'' and seem to be on the cusp of Harrow and full size. One thing i have wondered from playing a lot of golf is that your height isn't taken into consideration when picking clubs it is your WTF measurement as this has more of a baring on picking the right size. Wondered if anybody had thought of this approach or is it just over thinking the situation?

Have you contemplated the in between sizes? Newbury seven, and gms academy?

I'm using this approach at the moment with an Icon Original that I got for £80 from ProDirect.

I definitely middle more balls, and I also feel much more mobile/able to play more shots. For example, with an SH I really struggle to capitalise on legside deliveries, but with the harrow I'm pretty much on it.

Only downside is that I have noticed the lack of blade length at times. Shots that I would normally middle, I might toe, but I guess I'm still getting used to it. Harrow bats feel a little flimsier, and I'm not quite trusting mine against inswing into the pads at all, but hopefully over time I can begun to have faith in it.

I'd say buy a cheap one and have a go before comitting, though it has taken me a long time to even get close to getting along with mine.
To be honest, I'll see how the GM goes but will probably move onto my Mjolnir and eventually my new JpGavan bat by the start of the season.

would a super short handle make any difference?

My custom Red Ink, Laver, SAF, and also the new Kippax are all have half an inch shorter blade, I'm 5ft 7"

Not sure a shorter handle would work if you naturally held it at the bottom

Am I right in thinking it should be just like kids bats, length of bat to equal the height of your hip???

I stand corrected, my red ink is one inch shorter

That vortex is really beautiful ! How much difference is their between a harrow and Men SH ? Is their much difference between the grains, edges and spine height ?

Thanks, yes, it is more appealing but there isnt a big choice available at this size as far as I can see.
