Thanks Kieron. I will pass on your wishes to Dave, he came to watch quite a few games last year and if his knee's weren't so knackered from bowling 23 overs a week and batting 3 I'm sure he'd still be playing and scoring runs for fun. Played with him a bit and you can tell he's different gravy - so much time to play shots and the most accurate bowler I've seen.

We've had a few good overseas. Do you remember Ian Wheatley?

You're right about the weather, on a good day it's stunning, but on a cold/overcast it can be a bit chilly ;-)

Yes James that was the other guy I was trying to remember. Ian was a great player. He left Kilve and went to play for Taunton when the wepl started. So good to see clubs fighting back up through the leagues.

Dave was just a run machine. He must be up there as the highest run scorer ever in the Somerset league. Great bloke as well. And yes he bowled 23 overs from one end for 20 years !!!

We've just joined the Yorkshire and Derbyshire league, division 3 - same league as Smiley but a couple of divisions lower. I think it'll be ok but not a great standard as I've played against some of the teams in midweek leagues so have a rough idea what to expect. To be honest thats fine with me as I'm a bit rubbish these days.

Used to be quite a lot better when I was younger (but looking back not as good as I thought I was), I played for Darwen in the Northern League from age 10 to 20. Played one first team game and didn't disgrace myself but mainly 2nd XI and league U18/Lancs League U15. I reckon I'd have been a fringe to decentish premier league player if I'd kept going and not given up cricket for 10 years. Someone on here commented that they didn't want to leave their club as they'd played there for a long time, to me thats one of the biggest differences now (aside from the lower standard) - I used to love playing for my home town team and even though I always try my best games these days don't mean quite as much so I mainly play for fun these days rather than being too competitive.

Bruce, Chertsey dropped to the fullers for the 3XI?

Noooooooo.  We've got our 4th XI into the Fullers 3XI league this year, to give the kids more meaningful cricket. I believe we are playing your 3's.

The 3XI are still in the Surrey Champ.

I play for Horton Kirby in the championship of the kent league so fairly decent level next step up is kent league proper which is by and large a very good standard.

Who do you play for pal ?. I am just a struggling 2nd team/3rd team/ 4th team opening batsman and part time off spinner in a Worcestershire first division, sixth division and ninth division respectively team. I don't find much difference in gathering runs because of the fact that at lower divisions the poor quality of pitches and the occasional brilliant catching or a young one coming through really make up for the absence of quality bowling.

Following from procricket.

Middlesex league, mainly the 3's and Sunday 1sts. Getting on a bit and didn't like all the cut throat attitude of a lot of the teams.
Now, The Honorable Artillery Company, HAC, in the City. We play a varied level from jazz teams through to a gun MCC and Royal Artillery side. It's a privilege playing there.

Getting on a bit, 43 this year and creaking so keep it light but competitive.

Another Middlsex leaguer here (ex anyway, now residing in sunny Sydney), captained the 3's in the merit but made the odd apearrance for our 2's (Kensignton ?& Chelsea) - cut throat is an understatment! Someone called it the mMiddlesex Cheationship on here a couple of years back and it's a very accurate descriptive.

Pleased you agree.
There where a couple of teams who would literally swarm around an umpire when the ball went near the pad or edge.
It can get very boring, hence my move to the HAC.

Play in the West of England Premier League - Bristol & North Somerset division.  Its a pretty good standard with some decent grounds - gonna be my final season I think as age is catching up on me (44 this season)....

When you play our 3's you'll play a couple of seniors and the rest 14/15 year olds. Should be a good match for both sides.

Where do your 3's play?

Normally a rec ground called Waterers park. They played one game at our main ground last year when there was a free weekend. However all their games are at Waterers park this year.
