Played 20 years in the Surrey Championship anything from the old 1st Division (approx 18 teams in the league - 1st through to 3rd Division) to 3rd Division (new set up with 10 teams in each league - Prem to Div 5) .  Past three years in the Sussex County League Division 3 (10 teams per league).   All at 1XI.

Div 3 Sussex is comparable to the Div 3 of the Surrey Championship but without so many journeymen / ex-pros playing. Haven't played any higher up in Sussex as I am old and past it so can't comment on standard in the higher leagues.

The Sussex County setup is changing this year to 4 divisions of ten (County wide). Previous to this it was Prem / Div 2 (2 up, 2 down) and 3rd division split East / West (1 up and 1 relegated to the invitational leagues from each division).  Looking forward to the new set up as its 2 up and 2 down from each so there's something to play for chasing 2nd or fighting 9th place.  Not looking forward to travelling though as Sussex is massive, and our longest journey is over an hour to get to the ground and is a 12pm start  ! We're in the middle of the county, so god knows if your travelling from one end to the other how long journies are going to be.  I think the family man may be requesting 'home only' please !!!!!

Who do you play for pal ?. I am just a struggling 2nd team/3rd team/ 4th team opening batsman and part time off spinner in a Worcestershire first division, sixth division and ninth division respectively team. I don't find much difference in gathering runs because of the fact that at lower divisions the poor quality of pitches and the occasional brilliant catching or a young one coming through really make up for the absence of quality bowling.

Played weekly Sunday afternoon and Wednesday evening cricket from the mid 80's till 2006.

Then 40 some thing year old mid life crisis / change to a highly stressed job meant I wanted to test my cricketing ability at a higher level. So I played 3 seasons with Bishops Waltham 1's and 2's in the Hampshire leagues. Excellent times and managed to score runs, take wickets, catches and score a league hundred but 90 overs on a Saturday and 80 overs on a Sunday left me in rags until Tuesday.

Now 50 so body permitting just 20 odd games of very socialble cricket in 2014  :)

My CV probably makes me look a better player than I am. Grew up in Lincolnshire playing for Cleethorpes. 1st XI play Yorkshire Premier League, and a played a significant amount of 1st team cricket whilst I was there, but to be honest was never quite good enough (though my 2nd XI record was certainly good enough to justify the promotion)

Moved to Lancashire aged 19 and played 8 seasons with Preston, who play in the Northern League. Same story really - played lots of 1st XI cricket in the Northern Prem but was never quite good enough despite a very good 2nd XI record.

Played my last 3 years for Fulwood & Broughton in the Palace Shield. I was definitely good enough to play 1st XI there, though after a good first year I got dropped to the 2's by the end of my second year after a shocking run of form, and by the end of 2012 I was playing 3rd team after a horrid season.

Haven't played since then, instead playing baseball for Bolton in the AA North league

I play for kempton 2's in the surrey champ div 5.

Have dropped down from the 1's to captain the 2's and make way for an overseas. I'm sticking to that story in my head, not because I couldn't score a run all season.

Ha! I play for Chertsey - just around the corner from you. Are you based in the Sunbury area?

The clubs opposite kempton park racecourse. Nice private ground and a decent deck to bat on.

Chertsey's a nice ground, bit of a spinners paradise
