Paul, let's make this simple - as the master craftsman who turns these clefts into beautiful bats what if your view on a left or right handed bat?

Have you ever done this before, or is it a load of codswollop??

I think you've hit the nail right on the head there. Out of all the top players I've been fortunate to play with and against I never heard any of them talk about such things. Just bats that feel good and ping great.they may have certain criteria that they prefer but fundamentally they want a good bat.  People only look to theories and excuses when they want a quick fix instead of looking at working harder at their game and disciplining themselves to play within their limitations. How many people swap bats when they aren't scoring runs yet the bat was perfect when they were scoring. Has the bat list its technique? I don't think so.

Speaking of left and right handed bats - can anyone remember these?

I could do with one if them with the handle offset the other way.  I inside edge everything.

Warrior in Wakefield used to do a "left hand bat" it had 2 scoops out of one edge. And just 1 scoop out if the other.
Our 2nd team opener had one. Not that it helped him.....

That's another reason I need to buy another bat. What about a left handed mongoose mmi3? ;-)

To be be fair to Gray Nicolls, the scoop 'gimmick' became something of a design classic.

I'd also say that you would see an offset handle quite easily on the field and I have played with him a couple of times in charity games and haven't noticed then certainly didn't when he was playing for warwks but he may well have but then again what they are asked to advertise and what they use is a totally different matter all together

For those who love a hint of colour on an edge here are three clefts that I have selected as players because they have something special about them photos never do it justice really. I can see a lot more players grades coming to the fore with a hint of colour on an edge from companies over the next few years as the quality of top end willow is becoming rarer, but some if these clefts are for me far more beautiful than a pure white face on a bat. I am gradually getting through a large order and will put more of my own stuff on as and when I can, just get in touch if you see anything you like

I was talking about scoops, not offset handles. Think our wires got crossed.
