maybe they buy handmade mens clefts from wrights ,they are almost have the price of a grade 1 cleft......

a handmade cleft can still  be a belter  , but most will have the spine missing or a split/chunk missing somewhere on the cleft

What is a handmade cleft? Whats the diff? if they are inferior to G1 clefts, why r they same in price? Is it possible/normal to get these in 100's or 1000's? are these made on purpose?

the forklift looks familiar....

The handmade mens clefts need to be cleaned up by hand, hence the name ,wrights grade them down for a reason there not stupid ,prob ok for harrow bats

I know the site manager worked hard to get them in.  real nice clefts some stunner and still green like I said! Going to look at them when they are ready I got promised them for peanuts as I wax ended them but the buffoon I was with will probably deny it.... ;)

Yash you or your mate need to blag a catalogue from JS Wrights if you have to ask that question...

Yash the one the bench is a vellum cleft and  I was getting it ready to splice and shape up for a prototype T20 bat.

The one's in the wood yard are freshly split clefts still with a high percentage of water and excellent for shaping..

Both pic show you, as you asked, a proper split cleft

Interesting about the brands as why do we have loyalty to them? Some will be after the look and association with the sponsored players, some will know that a brand offers more bat for your money. When you get to make bats you see that some of the buying points are valid and some trash.

Willow plays well according to many factors, looks are not often one of them. Pressing is key, when the owner of a massive Asian brand tells me he will never be able to get his bats to play like the shop version of Newbery's that are stocked in one of his UK shops then you will know that despite what they may say publicly the truth is they know they are playing catch up. The reason for this? Pressing.

No Newbery/Salix/Warsop/GM player uses any other bat other than that brand as their bats are as good as they can be. The same cannot be said of GN, Slazenger, Puma, Kookaburra etc as their bats are not always good enough for the pro's. The Indian/Pakistani companies buy the majority of English willow so will have the upper hand on getting a quantity of quality clefts, but their pressing is not as good. I can say that with Afridi's match bat sat next to me, and it is as good as any Newbery etc I've ever had, but the standard is not as good as Newbery's standard.

Yash, what you think of the finish on Salix's Kashmir bat? I thought it was finished by Andrew as it was as good as any he has, but he says it was finished in India.
Gatting using what looks like a SS stickered Newbery today for Sussex. I would say many players buy for convenience.

Did he get them shipped over from SS rather than using English mades? I would've though that it would have just been a case of him seeing one in India and picking it up, interesting if not.
