Interesting about the brands as why do we have loyalty to them? Some will be after the look and association with the sponsored players, some will know that a brand offers more bat for your money. When you get to make bats you see that some of the buying points are valid and some trash.
Willow plays well according to many factors, looks are not often one of them. Pressing is key, when the owner of a massive Asian brand tells me he will never be able to get his bats to play like the shop version of Newbery's that are stocked in one of his UK shops then you will know that despite what they may say publicly the truth is they know they are playing catch up. The reason for this? Pressing.
No Newbery/Salix/Warsop/GM player uses any other bat other than that brand as their bats are as good as they can be. The same cannot be said of GN, Slazenger, Puma, Kookaburra etc as their bats are not always good enough for the pro's. The Indian/Pakistani companies buy the majority of English willow so will have the upper hand on getting a quantity of quality clefts, but their pressing is not as good. I can say that with Afridi's match bat sat next to me, and it is as good as any Newbery etc I've ever had, but the standard is not as good as Newbery's standard.
Yash, what you think of the finish on Salix's Kashmir bat? I thought it was finished by Andrew as it was as good as any he has, but he says it was finished in India.
