Im not suprised that he pays for his bats - many do. Many players are given bats for free, but once a player has a batmaker he/she likes, they are often more than happy to part with their cash for that service.

Akmal Uses a CA, Bopara Has warsop and you will be suprised that he pays for his bats and he has a few SS but loves his warsops.

I pay for my bats to:))

i am sure Tony will not give him bats for free if he is going to use GM stickers on them and get paid for it.

If you see Akmal's bats you can easily make out they are not GM the profile is very different. Similarly for Watson.

What about Trescothick, I'm sure I have heard said something about another batmaker doing some for him. Is he still GM?

As for Indian vs English, you get some players specifically requesting Indian made bats. Same for other guys who want specifically English made bats. It's horses for courses and I'd be suprised if there was one batmaker in particular who was the best. The ones I consistently hear referred by players though are SS, Kranzbuhler @ GN and Newbery.

from what i have been told, he is extremely loyal to gm, very unlikely he has bats made elsewhere.

Unless of course you are just about to announce the next mongoose signing ;)

bopara probs get them cheap tho, cook also uses warsop! so must pay.

Akmal is defo CA u can see the stamps when it goes in close and Grant Elliott uses bradbury with buzz stickers!

Pros May have bats from loads of bat makers and have their favourites

Also rumour has it that Kransbuhler makes bats for half of the aussie team!

Nahh not Mongoose. Was thinking a certain South Westerly based batmaker.

tresco is very loyal to GM. I've seen him use GM bats all my life. If he started out with them when he was a young kid and broke into the county team, he would be using their bats because that all he would know (tell me if i am wrong though!).

I think the reason why players like Bopara and Akmal use Warsop and CA is because they started out with them and like the bats of the respective batmakers. Why would they risk changing batmakers if they have been given 'perfect' bats all this time?

And please, do not turn this into a racist thing. Batmaking started out in England. What the English batmakers have learnt over half a millennium or so cannot be replicated by the Asian batmakers. For now at least. They have done well to copy the batmaking techniques but the bats are nothing like English made ones.

Tresco started life using M&H, then swapped to GM, uses purely GM but has something special for nets....

Bopara started using Warsop, then swapped to GM, uses only GM.

Some people have not read my earlier post very well, the guys using GM, Newbery, Salix, Warsop stickers will always have a matching bat under them. Not so for others, this to me is a mark of them being secure in the knowledge that their bats will not be bettered elsewhere.

Ok, Tresco apparently ordered 10 from one company earlier this year. Are they the ones for nets?

This debate is getting interesting.

I think no bat maker can make 100% top quality bats. There can be bats within their top range that may perform better than others and bats from a lower grade perform better than the top of the range.

The bat the best way to choose the bat is to go by the feel, pick-up and balance. Followed by ping and looks and lastly the brand. And while buying a bat online, you tend to focus more on the looks rather than the pick-up and feel.

I have owned and used a lot of bats (as most people on this forum will be well aware of). The 2 best bats I have got till now are the NB UZI C6+ (which I had to sell off as I did not like the feel of the C6 handle) and the other being my Kookaburra RP. Speaking very honestly, my off the shelf NB Uzi C6+ played and felt better than the custom made Newbery SPS bats . My Kahuna RP can take on any bat by a major UK / AUS or whereever bat maker in terms of feel, pick-up balance, ping and looks (though only 9 grains).

I feel the debate about UK vs Row is totally baseless and Indian and Pak companies make bats for loads and loads on international pros (probably more than NB and other major UK based bat companies put together). If the quality of these bats was poor why would pros use them?

Bats are meant to hit the ball further!!! yes, but it is not 100% dependent on the quality of the bat The guy hitting the ball has more important role in that. Also going by the recent CT games, I guess the game is about scoring runs and not just trying to clear boundary.

Every company has the right to make a few rubbish bats and its just an individuals luck if he gets given that rubbish.

One point I complete agree is that the Asia based batmakers need to learn the art of finishing their bats.

I think is someone is in a position to and sells quality bats for cheap, then we should respect him. Just because the bat is being sold cheap and is made in India or Pak does not i ply that the quality is poor.

Mike sells NB bats for very cheap (at trade price if I may say so) and maybe the guy at online stockist is doing the same. How they can do so? Is a question that can be best answered by the seller. As a buyer I am after the best bat, I can get and at the cheapest price.

Yash, whats ur review on BAS Millenium bats you got few months back ??

The Millennium and Hammer bats from BAS are very good and the finishing is nice too. I have taken a liking for bats with a mid middle so did not use my millennium much this season. But they are top stuff.

I would rate the BAS bats better than SS for quality and at par or slightly better than Kookaburra or other smaller UK brands in terms of quality and finishing.

The biggest plus for BAS is that their bats are £30-£70 cheaper for bat with similar quality willow
