W3 Footwear - thoughts, please??
« on: February 01, 2014, 01:41:33 AM »

Hi Guys,

What do you make of these shoes? It looks like a clever concept and I like the look of them.  They aren't available yet, so I doubt anyone has worn one, but they will be available in three weeks, and we're interested on stocking them...

http://w3-footwear.co.uk/

Anyone have any knowledge on their background/origin/place of manufacture? I'm intrigued by this company!  :)

Cheers,
Paul

Look like spiked up trainers to me. The customisation is quite cool and the suggestion of pink shoes does appeal.

Edit, upon reading their blurb, it seems a more streamlined version of spiked up trainers is exactly what they are going for.

They offer a 6 month warranty, which is the absolute minimum required by law I believe, doesn't inspire too much confidence.

All I can think of is the 'Wilson' brand when I look at them.

Can't look beyond Nike if I am honest, Asics and Adidas are very nice too. New Balance match W3 in terms of price, but as no-one at NB wants to reply to emails or help me on the phone in terms of telling me when our stock will turn up, I am starting to wonder if we should even bother (Not so subtle message to any NB staff on the forum to pull your bloody fingers out)

We will be stocking them. I have tried a pair and they are very nice, comfortable and light. I have worn spiked trainers for the last 20 years and these compare well with anything I have worn.

The idea is a good one but for me these look dreadful and cheap.
They've been hammering the social media and have obviously got some interest so fair play to them. Will be interesting to see if they look any better in the flesh

They book apart from the logo. Looks stuck on as an after though rather than incorporated into the design of the shoe.

If they were Cheaper than the competitors I'd consider them. If they were same price as a brand I know I'd be hesistant

£60 RRP actually makes them cheaper than NB and all the other footwear specialists for that matter...

There website only shows the blue shoe. Ad the customisable options are only laces and a name.

There site say "we are working on options for 2015" which to me mean that's your lot for 2014?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the blue shoe is nothing special, and is all they offer.

It's not a launch that has me saying wow. I want those. Because currently I don't.

Another Ian Wills project. Does he still run Vantage?

Mmmmmm...  :o

For me the aesthetics let it down and it's an important factor in shoes, cricket shoe or not. The pic looks ok here but on the website in a smaller size (ie zoomed out), it looks pretty average.

Doesn't he own vantage and merely franchise the name out? Last time I heard he was back in charge, and there was some issues a foot.
Not sure the state of play now though,

Correct, this is their only off-the-shelf shoe, but at least it's an affordable price for most cricketers.  Also, not every company has massive start-up capital and so can't invest in four or five ranges like the big boys...

Appears he did, but seems as if he runs it now.

Has anyone got any proof of this?
