National Village cup
« on: February 07, 2014, 02:57:08 PM »

Did anyone else see the draw ? Anyone else entered in it ?

I play for Weston, I think we got a pretty steady part of the draw in The herts and Beds region.

It's a knockout, one off game so anything can happen. Plus, no team is that good remember otherwise they'd be pro's :)

We played in the final in 2011 at Lords against a very strong Woodhouses team. We got battered in a rain affected 10 over match. The competition is loads of fun. We got to play against some good cricketers in lovely settings and always had a beer with them afterwards. Anything can happen in this tournament, we weren't the strongest by any means but we always managed to come off in the 50/50 moments. We got found out in the final but in such a short match anything can happen.

If you are thinking about doing it then I'd recommend it. I did find it a challenge to try and organise two teams on a weekend but it is good fun if you get out of your region.

I had a genuine mix of 1st teamers and 2nds teamers that I kept throughout the competition as they didn't let me down in the early rounds. Had a few people that suddenly became available in the later stages but I didn't want to change it up.

If you could have seen our team I'm sure it would give others hope, it certainly did for our opposition :)

A team near us won it in 2012, Reed CC. They said it was one of the best days out they've ever had and that the whole tournament is really really well run, So we decided to sign up, Don't think we will be setting the world on fire, but cricket can be a funny game !!

when i was in England i played in it twice.

Got to the quarters and then the next year the semi and got cheated out of a Lords final appearance by the number 11 from Elvaston CC in Derbyshire. These days the team is rubbish as most people retired after that game.
