how to add knee protection?
« on: March 25, 2014, 01:00:12 PM »

i have a pair of morrant ultralite pads. they are great in games, but during nets, i keep getting whacked on the knees and its beginning to bruise. it is possible that i picked the wrong size (i am 5ft 9, so right on the cusp of their small-mens and large mens size divide). but assuming that is not the case, any way I can increase the knee protection without buying another pair? insert some foam maybe?

Use the bat!  ;)

Possibly use a towel for added protection, if it's good enough for Sachin it's good enough for everyone I'd imagine

Maybe wear a knee pad/brace under the pad? Something like the old skateboarding pads?

If you want I have some knee inserts which were optional protection on the Newbery pads which I removed as I didn't need it.
I could take some pics if you're interested.

Old thread , recurring problem . I'm going to buy a pair of morrants in a couple weeks and have been thinking re how to bolster the knee protection too .
Idea 1)- i have a pair of puma evospeed pads ( bmac's , but the 2 strap version ) and they lack a bit in the knee protection department too . They have no knee cup , rather a hard foam insert with velcro on both sides . You attach the insert to the pad then the actual detachable knee bolster velcros onto the foam insert . I may 'borrow' the foam insert for the morrants  (provided the velcro will attach) . Or just swap the entire removable shin and  knee bolsters from one pair to the other , or both in one pair etc .
Idea 2)- i have a pair of puma iridiums which I'm thrashing via training , bowling machine sessions etc . Maybe I could cut out the knee bolster (it has a knee cup and velcro) and attach it to the morrant knee padding via stick on velcro tape .
Only problem is that all these ideas make the morrants heavier , and then they become 'just another pad' .
(Dumb) idea 3)- slide in a pair of moonwalkr pads behind the morrants ....the sum weight would be about 1150gms , still lighter tthan some !  ;) . But in all seriousness,  i think the best solution would be ...
Idea 4)- get some fibretec insert material from old pads ( the sheeting which lines the shin bolster ) , or source similar material , and cut out a flat circular knee cup/reinforcement and secure that behind the morrant knee padding . It would be the least bulky , and possibly the lightest , alternative.
.....there , thats my first post sorted .

Hi Mate, welcome,

dont know where you are based but maybe worth speaking to a foams company, i know a friend of mine went to a company in AUS called Clark Rubber and they were able to get him some stuff to create the knee guard. Dont know the ins and outs but he said it worked for him

Thanks . Yeah I'm in Sydney , so I've seen the annoying Clarks Rubber tv ads since I was a kid . Worth exploring that route . Maybe memory foam , maybe 'forget foam' , but I'll see whats available . I'll try all the options I can , then contact Sachin et al and tell them they can take the beach towels and yoga mats out of their pads finally . ;)

Just cut up a foam floor tile, and stick that in there, super easy, full custom fit!!
