Cheers Vitas! (Gear for the brother)
« on: April 02, 2014, 03:32:18 PM »

Big thanks to Vitas, who sorted out for me a late birthday present for my brother! I must have changed my mind about a million times, I kept wavering from B&S to Hunts to B&S back to Hunts and then to GM, etc etc, so thanks for being so patient with me Jake! Anyways, enough talking, I'll let the pictures do most of it. :)

As you can see, GM really do offer some cracking bats in the 404-606 grades. Great value for money! (Six6 on the right is a 404)

To be honest, his kit is pretty amazing for someone who doesn't really know how to play! I do worry a little too much when I hear of him doing any sports, so I think it's worth it to spend that little bit more on protection for him. (He also has a lovely grainy Ricochet 250)

A big thanks again to Jake, who must have been dealing with my ever changing mind for a few months! I must have been a massive ball-ache of a customer, but he was really patient with me. I would go into more details, but I have to run into town to ask about a microphone! Oh, and thanks for the free bat tape! The only thing I'm going to grumble about is the absence of a certain lovely Vitas towel! ;)

Lovely gear there Chad. What a great brother you are. Are your parents looking to adopt?

Apologies for lack of towel. We have none left! I think Brucie got the last one with his recent custom Hunts bat.

Quite a kitbag you've got for your brother though mate ;)

For Christ sake don't mention my 'custom' Hunts bat - it gets threads shut down!

And yes, I did get the last towel. I'm using it to polish my plums!

Just thought I'd update this, as I was very brief with the OP.

The GM 808 gloves are a decent build, a good quality glove at a decent for a mid-range glove. The leather palms are nice, and they are small mens, so offer a nice fit. The protection is good, and they are also pretty flexible, so don't need any wearing in at all. :)

The TON thigh guards I feel are a great price for what they are. I feel they are actually nicer than my P2s, and are quite rigid, but you can mould them into a better shape. Having whacked myself with a mallet, not full force, the protection levels on this are good, and they are quite thin compared to Aeros, which is a plus! The build and straps on it are also very good.

The Aero box feels much sturdier than the usual Readers box. I may have to invest in one myself... (That or a Nuttybuddy)

The Purist bat is really quite nice. I would say the profile offers a longer middle than expected, although it isn't amazing higher up the blade. (Not many bats are though) It has a big coverage low down though, and would say that it extends from low to mid/mid-high. The performance is really very good out of the sweetspot, I would say better than the Six6 profile, but not quite as forgiving higher up the blade. It actually looks a lot like the DB2 offering B3 have, which I find responds exceptionally well too.

All in all, really happy with what I managed to get for the brother. Just gotta sew up that Ayrtek strap, teach him how to knock in bats, and he's good to go. :) Thanks again for the gear, Jake!
