Whats the most you would spend on softs?
« on: April 05, 2014, 02:28:53 PM »

I have just sold my GN Legend gloves and will have a brand new pair of GN Oblivion Test pads to potentially sell this week.

Looking at other softs I just can't seem to look past the M&H CK22 pads and gloves. But man they are expensive.

The softs I used last year cost me £122 for the set, GN Legend gloves £50 (2nd hand but like new) and Oblivion Test Pads £72 (Brand New)

The CK22 pads would come in at £155 for the set from Talent Cricket or £195 from M&H.

Whats the most you would spend on softs that you are likely to only use for 1 season?

Quick extra, do you reckon M&H would sell the softs to me for the online price of Talent Cricket rather than letting me walk out the shop without spending any money on Monday?

Pre 2012 I would have spent whatever it took to have 'the best'. Now however, I know that you don't have to spend more than 60 on pads and 50 on gloves to get 'the best'. They just won't look flash to the 'standard' cricket player as they won't know the brand so will assume it's crap.

I would spend around 150 pounds on pads and gloves but like to have sets off pads to match my bat  :D

Aren't most of them same stuff anyways with different branding. Puma, Adidas, Aero seem to some of they very few different ones.

For me £40 max on pads
£30 max on gloves
Thigh Guards hmmmm only every spent £35 max but willing to go £60
£10 max on arm guard

Yep, most are basically from the same few Indian suppliers. Like I said, you can get more value for your money if you actually look at the pad, not the branding.

Around 90 to 120.

The gms I have which are midrange are more than good enough, greatest design, great feel, good protection. And i think they cost me around 90 for lot(got gloves in a deal with a. Bet, hence unsure)

But I will hopefully have a set off top line spartan gear on the way, and fingers crossed they are as good as I believe they look.
As this is the first time I've been tempted to buy top range on the softs front.

Pads and gloves is consistently around £100,  however,  generally mine last at least two seasons. My current pads will be on their third this year,  but will have a standby set as I don't think they'll survive till August...

I guess this all depends on how many matches you play in a season. You guys must get through a set or two every season!!!

For me with a limited number of matches in a season and using aero p2 pads and newbery thigh guards in nets I would limit myself to about 60-65 gbp which is how much i spent on a pair of 2014 Woodstock Platinum Sausage Gloves and a pair of matching pads all thanks to a forum member on here.... :D

I do love this forum....

Probably £75-80 maximum.  My softs for this year (kookaburra R1000 pads and SS super test gloves) cost around £65 combined. Both brand new too.

No more than £90 on softs for me.
(This excludes my Strettons, which I invested in as they'll last a lifetime!)
