You can sand the bat face.

I've done it on three bats so far this month and I've not seen a performance issues with any of them.

Be sure to Oil your bat and leave it for 24 hours after sanding it.

If solvents won't work, then the kind of  heat gun you use wfor wallpaper removal in short bursts works.  Hels having a spare pair of hands to use that though!

I should only use dry sand paper correct?

Also looks like the sand paper is made of different types of material. which one to use?

Aluminum Oxide, Ceramic, Flint, Garnet, or Silicon Carbide   ????

I got these from home depot  in different grits.

http://www.homedepot.com/p/3M-9-in-x-11-in-Final-Sanding-Sandpaper-25600NA-CC/202187741

They also have a multi grit pack that goes from 60-100-180-220.

I couldn't find a multi grit pack above 220 grit.

The finish will leave the wood willow condition same all the way down the face.

You should aim for a lovely smooth finish..

you can use a little vegetable oil to remove glue residue. when you've got all the glue off rub the bat down so its dry then start with a low grit sandpaper, 60-80 and work your way up through the grits to a 220 or higher. I draw pencil lines on the bat after each grit then rub them out with the next one so I know I've sanded all areas equally
