As I've been made club captain this year I've tried to make our nets a bit more focused on individual training - whereas previously it's just a free for all, just go in bowl and bat how you want. However for a couple of people that I want to progress I've told them to work on specifics and it's been quite successful.
Yeah. Fair play to our skipper. He has worked hard over the last two years to improve the young lads.
Socially, I can sit and have a pint quite happily with him. On a pitch, I can't stand him. He is a B*llend (The captial B was meant!). Far too over-friendly with other players/captains, makes inappropriate comments, does inappropriate things and is just cringe-worthy. Plus his man-management of players is abysmal. Also, for some inexplicable reason, his Mrs insists on calling me by my nickname (which for some reason, annoys me greatly) rather than my name.
To cut a very long story short, it is very easy to dislike him.
However, Training-wise, you can't fault him. He knows his stuff inside out and tries really hard to make people better - which can't be easy when 50% of the team think you are a complete B*llend (On, and off, the pitch!).
Ultimately, that's life. We all meet people we might not like, get on with or agree with
BUT sometimes you cannot fault them for the work they do and what they give.
