I am a very average/below par  cricketer but love to practise so Advice much needed please, I am currently struggling with the basics, in the video I am focusing on the forward defence and straight drive, I used to confidently and successfully play these shots but the start of this season nets etc it has gone to pot

70 - 75mph with half the bucket swing in and the other swing away

I have noticed that I am playing the shots to early and playing to low

Constructive advice would be very much appreciated

Apologies the video quality not great and well my shots are village

from what I can see, it looks as though A) your head and shoulder are not leading you into the shot, and therefore you are relying on your hands too much, and not making a good connection, B) it looks as though you are coming from in to out, and therefore you are slicing a lot of the deliveries, and C) it seems as though you are not playing the through the line of the ball, there are a few examples of you clearly premeditating what shot you were going to play, for example: one ball was well outside your off stump and you tried to drive it back to the bowling machine, if you lead with your head and shoulder, to the ball, and then just extend your hands through the natural arc, then you should see an improvement.

additionally, your foot does not seem to get very far forward at all, which could be why it seems as though your head does not get to the ball, you should be focussing so hard on the ball, you should almost try to headbutt the ball (dont actually) but that should get you out to the ball better.

Thank you very much good advice, I will deffiantly go over that, front foot shots have always been my weakness, back foot shots are my run scoring shots.

I think I lose balance aswell, could this be why I'm not following threw the shots well ?

could well be, again the balance issue comes down to your head, if your eyes are not level, you fall over, if your head and shoulder are not together, often you lean back, hit the shot off balance, and spoon it in the air

It looks to me that you are playing to early lead with your head and shoulder play the ball under your eyes with an high front elbow let the ball come to you keep your head still as this will stop you lifting the ball bring your bat down straight brush your front pad with your top hand glove when you play the front foot foreward defensive this will ensure your bat and eyes are inline it will also ensure there is no gap between bat and pad Give yourself a bigger stride  but not to big as you need play the shots from a firm  stable base to give you a better balance.

I don't think you look too bad, put the bowling machine at 60 and get some confidence.

I agree with buzz, not too bad. Just get your shoulder leading and pointing to the ball. Easiest way to practise this is not using the bowling machine but set 3 balls in front of you on the on, straight and off drives, then lead the shoulder in to the ball and drive them. Keep practising this then go back on the machine, you need to work on the movement before hitting a moving ball. I do this before I go out to bat as well, a great tip from a coach when I was in Oz. Try this and you'll be surprised how everything falls into place. if you worry about every detail you scramble your thinking. One other thing what is your guard? From the camera shot it seemed you were around middle and off. With your side on position you would be better on 1 or 2.

You are playing early.. let the ball come to you.. The better part is you have learnt to play straight..
