I'm more of a reader than a poster but I had a game that will remember for a while today so wanted to post it.
I only play Sunday friendly stuff, just for the love of it, with no pretensions to being any good at the game (my club's home ground has cropped up a couple of times in "worst ground ever" type threads), and my 14 year old son plays a few games with us, but doesn't always necessarily enjoy it.
Today then the oppo batted first and had a couple of decent players first up, but we kept a lid on the run rate until the 16th over when one of the openers tried to go over the top and skied one to mid-off, where my lad was fielding. My immediate thought was that is was well over him, but he made great ground backwards and got his hands up, only to drop it.
No one would have expected him to hold it, but he's a sensitive lad and I was worried about him being gutted about it.
As luck (or otherwise), the very next ball, the batsman stuck another one in the air right at him - cricketer's worst nightmare in my view! - and he caught it as nonchalantly as you could ever imagine.
I'm mega proud at this, and he comes on to bowl, a bit of a mixed bag to begin with, but after a filthy half tracker gets hit for 4 in his third over, he responds with a jaffa to bowl the batsman. That was the end of the over, but first ball the next over, the batter chips it up in the air to be caught. They cross and the lad on strike has tried thus far to hit everything to the moon, and my boy sorts him right out with an inswinging yorker for a hattrick in adult cricket.
That was my day made for me, but to add the cherry on the cake on a personal note I opened the batting using my GM Six6 808 that I bought from Mr Jake Vitas, which had various players drooling over how big it looks, and maybe more importantly the sound it makes, on the way to 54* to win on a ground I had never enjoyed any success on before.
