I wasn't down to play today as I'm injured but we had a very late pull out and I was about anyway, so off I went and picked up my kit and attempted to play. Skipper won the toss and elected to bat, I was down at four and went in to bat. Hit 35 dealing in mainly fours and walked singles before deciding to attempt a two. As I turned my dodgy knee locked up again and I stacked it half way down the wicket, luckily the fielding team refused to run me out before I'd picked myself up off the floor and regained my ground and I had to retire hurt. Spent the rest of the day watching my team win in the final over of a timed game just as the sunshine came to bring warmth to the post match beers.

Unfortunately my feeling on my injury is that the floating cartilage in my knee as worked its way into the joint after landing heavily on it last weekend meaning I'm going to need surgery to sort it out. I'm not a doctor though so hopefully I'm wrong!

1st XI team on tour this weekend for our league break, though I didn't go, so played for the 2's. Batted first I thought I should hide myself at no.11 came in with three balls left to score 8no. We finished on 225. Got them to 184 for 9 after their 40 overs, two wickets for 31 for me.

Today was a friendly for another local side came in to bat quite late in the innings at no.6 and I scored a 13 ball 50! which I was pretty pleased with :D Ended up with 64no. Didn't bowl today.

We played aston 2nds on saturday.
We got 240 in 50 overs.
We then had them 110-8  off 25, before being put to the sword for the best part of 25 overs. We dropped 4 match winning catches, had a couple of lbws turned down and a genuine nick refused. They lost their ninth wicket at 237 and thanks to a bit of arguing while we were batting they only batted with 10. Won by 3 runs.!!.

Bit of an anti climax to my last weekend as a Bronze CC player. Played Standard on Saturday bowling them out for 165 in 37 overs. Got 1-32 in 5 (not great) but a good team bowling performance. So we needed 165 off 63 overs. The rain started coming down in the 20th over and it was quite heavy the umpires stayed on until the last ball of the 25th (therefore constituting a game) is being 71-3 having 38 overs to chase 100 but unfortunately behind the run rate so we got a losing draw as we needed 12 more runs at that point to be ahead of the run rate. Highly frustrating as we would have cruised to a win had it not been for the rain.

Then what was to be my last game yesterday at Walsall, we found out as we were driving to the game that they had conceded the fixture (stupid leauge rules allows you to) as we were driving to the ground, so we didn't t play.

Shocking game yesterday away at a local 'rival' - we batted first, scoring 132-7 off of our 40 overs. The bowling was tight and very accurate, with a lot of new faces in the opposition team from the last meeting; with their Saturday league game called off, they drafted in a couple of the players. I opened but had trouble with (1) contact lenses and (2) a sore achilles, and was thankfully put out of my misery like a lame dog for 12, caught at square leg. Their keeper, who looked about 17, was a really gooby so-and-so, and was full of all the village cricket platitudes you could imagine...(to the bowler) - "Just you and me buddy"; (to anyone listening) - "He's only got one shot"; (to me) "Think you're in the big time with your name and number on your shirt" etc. I told him to (no swearing please) off and go back home to finish his homework....I'm 50 and have been playing for 40 years, and it doesn't affect me a jot, I was just disappointed that the younger generation seem to think that this is the norm these days.....but I may simply be turning into a grumpy old man! Anyway, I digress......

They were somewhat 'confident' of chasing down the target, so image our badly-contained glee when we had them 6-6 after 10 overs, with gobby keeper going for 2...Oh how we laughed! I took a sharp-ish catch at gully which was quite satisfying; would have been even better if it was the keeper! After 20 overs, they were 18-6. You know whats coming now though, right?

Yep.....we manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory; they ended up 133-8, with 9 balls to spare....to say I was gutted is an understatement! Not quite sure even today how we managed to let that slip away.  :( :o

Onwards and upwards, roll on next weekend!

Had a good win tonight for my village team. We scored 101 all out on a very slow pitch in 20 overs. Don't know what I got but was very unhappy withour scorer. I knew I'd hit 8 4's and a 6 along with I don't know how many 1's and 2's, only to come off to find my score down as 37 in the book! >:( They got to 50 for 0 but then we started to pickup wickets on a regular basis. Came down to the last over and they needed 9 to win. Our spinner bowled a great over, including a stunning caught & bowled, only going for 2 runs. Great bowling performance by our team, especially as we only had 9! :)

Played two games this week so far. Tuesday for the U16's which we won easily, bowling Maesteg out for 73, we chased the 74 down in just 13 overs with the loss of one wicket. I opened the bowling for the U16's and believe my figures this week were 3-0-12 (wasn't too pleased with this). Last night in the mid-week team we played Clydach CC, we batted first and scored 135-4 off 20 overs. However, it was a batting track which they're batsmen took full advantage of chasing our total down in a mere 14.3 overs. I came on to bowl the last over, or three balls as it was and got put for two sixes. Only the fourth time I've ever been put for six.

Called off at 12.10 due to overnight rain. Sunny now.  Not all that fussed as I went to a midnight screening of Transformers so got home at 3 this morning. Tired now!

Rain has restarted heavily after it dried out enough to get started. That's the end of cricket for today.
