« on: April 12, 2014, 08:46:55 AM »

So for me and I'm sure a few others we have our first game of the season today which after the winter of rain and storms I'm not sure we though we would ever see. I'm typical fashion rolled in at 3am this morning, feel awful, heads thumping so blatant,y gonna score a Ton today :D lol.

Good luck to you all for the season ahead and most importantly enjoy your Willow.

Inter club friendly today. Good opportunity to dust off the fielding cobwebs

We had two friendlies this weekend. One cancelled due to oppo having 7 players. Other due to a waterlogged outfield.

So today we had a single wicket comp!

Bearing in mind I'm injured, have only netted twice on bowling machines, and can't run, I still entered. Scored 14 of my 5 overs(29 runs and 3 outs -5 each)
1 six, 5fours, and 3 walked ones. All fun. Got dropped twice though. Haha

Switching from outdoor to indoor is not easy though, bounce pace was all over the place.

First game

So, tomorrow is our first match. A green top in Kent. That's a far cry from our wonderful home strip.

This afternoon. whilst listening to Ipswich beat Donny and keep the play-off dream alive (Narwich lost again so that made it even better), the kitchen was awash with kit. Loved it.

Looking at what I've done, it's a bit like Mike Hussey's (there is a clip on utube of him and his bag which I love), everything bar the scales.

Can't wait., but as usual the nerves are starting.

Nerves before a game of cricket, someone takes it a bit seriously!

Never been nervous before a game personally, I'm there to have a good time

So played our first game today and a nice win to start us off, positives we won, all got a bat

Negatives we all got a bat lol. Played at home pitch and ground were in great condition, pitch was a little slow as you would expect from April and although grass was cut Thursday was a little long. We batted first a posted a decent 189 from 42 overs personally I made a lovely 37 before getting one that held in the pitch and offered return catch to the bowler but after the way I felt first thing I'd take that seeing as pitch was quite green and there Aussie was decent pace and making at talk as he kept telling me. Also got off the mark with a 6 which sounds great but was a 2 with 4 over throws from a rather over zealous fielder lol thanks a lot lol.

Oppo made a good start before losing a few wickets and coming up 40 odd short. Managed to snaffle 4 catches behind the stumps including a nice diving 1 hander which stick in the webbing of my gloves to give our colt his first senior wicket which was great to see as for a 13 year old he sends at down at a decent lick. All in a good day.

Few pics of our ground.

Played in a local clubs inter club game as they were short. Didn't open by choice as it feels greedy as it's another club but went in at 4 and put on 130 ish before getting out. Missed out on  a few shots that should have been 4's but it doesn't matter as it's pre season.  Felt the 2013 Adie coming back by the end which bodes well.

Got told with ten overs to go to slog and get out (pre arranged at drinks), ran past a straight one trying the mash it and was stumped. Again, don't care as I don't play those shots normally so it's not a dismissal you'll see. All in all, great fun and nice to get middle Time, feeling much better now too.

Scored 6 before being caught and bowled, 1 catch and 2 wickets. We lost but a youngster got his first 5-for with his last ball being his 5th which was helped by the most outrageous catch I've ever seen. Outrageous I tell thee!

Saturday mate so used the HH gear and the bat went like a dream, had an ounce in weight removed during winter which was really helped with the short stuff. Tbh I'm more than likely gonna use it in nearly all my cricket this year as I've now been working in the workshop for over a year and its not really right to not use it. The other gear will get a go now and then.

Lost our first game of the season, we had a weakened team out but we shouldn't have lost after the position we were in. But never mind, scored 49* and bowled 7 overs for not a lot. Nice to get some time in the middle and get the ball in the right areas.
