First game yesterday in the Kent Sunday league and nice to get a win. Even better was that our side has a lot of our promising colts in it and they all did exceptionally well contributing with bat and ball and giving there all in the field.

We batted first and scored 252 myself and my opening partner shared a 100 stand inside 16 overs but both fell to very good catches and then everyone chipped in with decent knocks.

In reply they never even tried to chase it down and used it as alive net basically which was annoying g seeing as it was a league game, they were on 12 runs after 13 overs and then when we knocked over a few of there senior players at least a few of there colts tried making it a bit more interesting and played some shots. Finished on 151-7.

But none the less a first win in a new Sunday league campaign.

Not sure what end of the bat to hold at the moment, third duck in a row. Having a shocker considering the runs I scored at this level last year. Hugely frustrating.

Bowling wise, another good performance looking in the book (7-0-25-2). Struggled with my line a touch but managed to get their opener and first drop in two balls (2nd ball a absolute peach, fast middle stump yorker).

If they know they (excluding crap bowling or someone coming off (rare)), are too weak batting wise to actually chase 252 then why go for it? I do hear people complain about teams. It going for it but why should they gift their wicket trying to hit out etc. This is where draw cricket is better as you have to get a team out as well as annihilate them with the bat. Our game Sunday technically says we 'thrashed' the oppo but as we didn't get them all out I personally think we shouldn't have won as we weren't good enough to take all their wickets.

You seem to have some different ideas on cricket to most, why play any game if you're not trying to win it?

Depends on your definition of "Win". If you know on a given day that you don't have the batting to score runs quickly or the bowling to get a team out, then winning is getting as many points as you can. The more the better. If you do that by not giving your wickets away and proving that the opposition doesn't have the bowling to get you all out, why shouldn't you do what you can to get those points?

Yeah I suppose, we had an English guy this year trying to explain the points thing to us, different cricket I guess.

I love playing points based league cricket

Declaring an innings early so you have more overs to bowl the oppo out, trying to bat out an innings to save the match  etc.. they all have a bit of a 'Test' match feeling for me .

it's not always hit out or get out cricket.

Another massive TFC for me yesterday, thanks to the trains out of London Saturday it took over 3 hours to get to the game. Made it just in time for the start and then we bowled out the oppo for 52 in 20.4 overs - knocked it off in 10.1 overs.

3 and a half hour journey for a game that finished at 3.20pm... lovely afternoon full of ciders and sun mind!! :D

Fed up with cricket already! Keep on getting myself out, lack of patience, looking for runs. Have an ok eye, and bat aggressivley, any tips on how to stay at the crease for a long time, is it just training and just learning to be content with dots? Or am I missing something  ??? Thanks

Proper league cricket is so much more rewardning that overs based games I find.  As noted, an overs game can result in excessive defence in the second innings and a lot of dead time within games when there is little to play for, whereas proper cricket tests batsmen and bowlers as well as captains, all of whom are required to think about he situation of the game and react accordingly, which means calling upon different skill sets at different times.

Thanks, I guess that would be the best option, perhaps ajmw98 (adam) will be able to add some insight on how I bat!

Charlie, are you playing 3s this year?  3rd XI prem is a totally different game to 3rd XI div 1 or 4th XI like you're used to.  Slightly better fielding, more accurate bowling.  Take your time and us your head.  And for god's sake don't let nemo score more runs than you!
