Interesting game yesterday.

We played the second oldest touring team in the country, I Zangari. A great group always good fun and play the game in the correct spirit.

They always bring a gun team to the HAC and yesterday was no exception.
They had a Kenyan International, Rhageb Aga (Rags) who the other day (apparently) smite the Dutch to all parts. He came out to bat at 4, after Fastereddie had seen off the openers, 1 middle stump flattened by a quick yorker, and the others off stump clipped by a let cutter.

I was at mid-off and all I saw for a while was the full face of a bat bought down at speed and with easy timing. my hands are sore and I ran a lot.

He nicked-off at 60 odd, thank-god. Our skip knows him as did the bowler who got him. They both said after that they expected him to get 150!! A bit good.

He then opened the bowling and a fair lick.

A really good game, cracking pitch, rock hard but a tad slow, but that's by county standards.

If you get a chance to play I Zengari, take it. They are always charming, heck they are Old Etonians!

A great day.

Oh, we started at 1130, lunch and tea (amazing catering but £39 a head! for subs!). 120 overs (I think), pub by 7.

first game of the season yesterday in the NKO.

had a clear stumping turned down by the umpire, dropped a full length diving catch late on and got 1(6) with the bat.

so not a great day.

Bowled the oppo (bournville ) out for 66. Stood at gully all day with a pack of fruit gums, dont think I touched the ball.
Then we got them for none down in 12 overs. Me and my mate 30 and 31 respectively.

Teas after the game were exceptional.

Day of contrasts with bat, ball and  in the field in my two matches yesterday:
Uni match vs Brunel, took 2-32 off my 10, with my action being written in the book as R-Pie. I suspect the guy who wrote that was one of my victims so evens there. With the bat it wasn't so good. First ball wide down leg batting seven, and in against the opening bowler due to a typical Sussex collapse, second ball, so really my first legit one, yorker that flattened my middle stump at considerable speed. All I could do was say well  bowled and walk off, and leave for my club match. I  now have a record of 5 ducks in 8 innings for uni in the last two years!
League knockout vs Winchmore Hill, 15x8 ball overs. We set 137 against the orange ball, and in response we held them to 120. I didn't bat or bowl, but certainly did my bit in the field! In the uni match I fielded ok, but just when I felt I wasn't going to do anything for my club, everything started to happen. Coming in from deep cover round to deep point, about 70 yards out, batsmen had turned for second, picked up and threw in straight to the keeper, had the striker out by a good couple of yards. In the penultimate over our  opening bowler bounced the opposition 3, who pulled towards deep mid-wicket towards the longer boundary. I  was a fairly straight cow-corner, and ran around thinking I didn't have a chance, until I realised I was about 5 yards in from the line, and  dived for it, took it one handed at full stretch, parents said there was an incredible smack as it hit my hand and they expected me to drop it, but my team mates were in hysterics at the fact it had stayed in! By this stage I had done 65 overs of fielding in the day so was knackered and couldn't stop laughing at the ridiculousness of it all! All in all a good day :)

Excellent place to play. Despite the hassle of getting there it is still one of my favourite grounds to play at in the league.

It's going to be a long day and a ball ache to get there, hope the teas are up to standard!  ;)

Bit late in posting but had a match both Saturday and Sunday last weekend.

Saturday went on loan to my former club Cawood (against Civil Service) as they only had 7 players (and I  managed to bring along 3 players with me). Match didn't start too well as we lost the toss then potentially our best batsman (an Indian ROP studying at Leeds Uni) run out for 1 in the 2nd over. I went in at 9, beatifully timed an off drive for 4 then tried exact same shot again next over and it ballooned up to gulley. We were all out for 62 and I was thinking we had absolutely no chance.

After tea our Indian ROP and myself opened the bowling and had the opposition wobbling at 24-4 then 35-5 but another day the could have been 7 or 8 wickets. One batsman certainly rode his luck but at 50-5 (after 20 overs), our skipper perhaps sensing the match was almost up, decided to change the bowling at both ends. The young lad replacing the Indian ROP continued the good bowling and got a wicket with his third ball but I'm afraid my replacement sent down some right filth which enabled the opposition get over the line before his first over was complete. Match played in great spirit and I picked up 3 wickets in my 10 overs so at least I had something to show for my afternoon's efforts.

On Sunday I played an all day match for the Yorkshire Gents where again the bowlers were very much on top. I batted 11 and was out for a golden quacker as I was trapped LBW. I'm afraid I was absolutely plumb and had already started walking before the finger went up. Anyhow we set the opposition 119 to win but unlike yesterday, this game did go right down to the wire. The opposition got to 117-9 when a very hopeful LBW appeal was surprisingly upheld. I know a few of the lads were quietly disappointed to win under such circumstances but it was quickly forgotten as everyone had enjoyed the day.

Season is finally underway here in Canada, Played in a season opening T-20 round robin tournament...Few wickets in 4 matches I played and some runs. Overall a decent start looking forward to improving as the season progress, felt a little undercooked / unfit by the time we played our last match.
